James Hulsey Obituary

James E. “Bud” Hulsey, 79, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018 at his home in Salisbury. He was born April 14, 1939 in Huntsville, Ala. to the late Dewey and Mable Butler Hulsey. Bud was a graduate of Huntsville High School and Auburn University. He started his career in the refrigeration industry with McRae Refrigeration, he then worked for WA Brown &Sons in Salisbury for over 25 years, and retired from Leer Refrigeration in Wisconsin. After retiring, Bud went to work at Dan Nicholas Park for the maintenance department; he enjoyed his colleagues and time there. Bud was a current member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He was a former member of Christiana Lutheran Church, where he was past council president two times, a member of the Theresa Safrit Discussion Sunday School Class, and a member of the maintenance committee. Bud was also a past member of the Granite Quarry Civitan Club. He enjoyed playing cards with long time friends. Bud was an avid wood worker and golfer, and enjoyed surf fishing at the coast. Bud had a special bond with his beloved granddaughter Emma who he loved with all his heart. Spending time with her and watching her play sports was his favorite past time. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Tucker and Ramona Sallis; brothers, Gene Hulsey and Kenneth Hulsey; and niece, Michelle Ivey. Bud is survived by his wife of over 45 years Maggie Hulsey, whom he married Oct. 12, 1973; daughter, Allison Cornelison and husband Andy of Salisbury; granddaughter, Emma Drew Cornelison; sister, Edna Sharpe of Huntsville, Ala.; nephews, David Sharpe and wife Amy and Austin Sharpe and wife Hannah; and niece, Tina Salyers. Visitation & Service: The family will greet friends and relatives on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 from 2:30-4 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Salisbury. The Celebration of Bud's Life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, with Rev. Sean Barrett, officiating. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's Cochlear Implant Center, In Memory of Bud Hulsey, 5501 Fortunes Ridge Dr., Durham, NC 27713.
