James Ogle Obituary

With family at his side, James “Jim” W. Ogle died at his home in Salisbury, NC on July 22, 2024. He was born in Newport, Tennessee to Della Ford Ogle and Charles Lamar Ogle on September 23, 1942. Jim's parents and four of his siblings: Charlie Ogle, Jackie Ogle Holt, Frances McCurdy, and Don Ogle are deceased. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Susan Creasy Ogle and children Craig, Russell, Allyson Ogle Newton (Bart Newton) and granddaughters Kayla Ogle, Leah Ogle. He also leaves his sister Terri Ogle Lewis (Harold Lewis), sisters-in-law Jane Creasy Scrivner, Thelma Ogle, beloved nieces and nephews, and cherished friends. Additionally, his granddog Anabel held a special place in his heart.

Jim attended Newport Grammar School and graduated from Cocke County High School; he had great memories of friends and experiences. He delighted in his membership at Salisbury First United Methodist Church and the Adam and Eve Sunday School Class.

During Jim's career, he was the executive manager of several textile manufacturing facilities. The last was as president of North Carolina Finishing. His greatest work attribute may have been his ability to build relationships with all levels of employees. He cared about the people with whom he worked, he helped them, he learned from them, and he elevated people. He was loved by many and invited enthusiasm and cooperation. His love of family came first; family phone calls were always relayed directly to him. At the end of his manufacturing career, he incorporated Advantage Solutions, a chemical sales and consulting company that served many of the connections he had made over the years.

Known for his warm personality, even in suffering, he left people including the many healthcare workers who helped him along the way with a smile and a brighter day. God made him a kind and grateful person who treated all with respect. He tended to talk less and listen more.

Jim loved football season (University of Tennessee especially - “Yeah boy!” - an apt expression he used regularly), NASCAR, and mountain camping.

A memorial service will be held at FUMC Salisbury on August 3 at one o'clock p.m. with a reception to follow for all friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
