James Ritchie Obituary

James Deal “Jimmy” Ritchie, 77, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 17, 2016, at his residence, following a period of declining health, but death was unexpected. Jimmy was born Nov. 28, 1939 in Rowan County, a son of the late Lewis Edward and Gladys Deal Ritchie. He was raised by Lloyd and Annie Lou Goodnight. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were brothers, Charles Ritchie, Roy Goodnight; and a grandson, Brandon Talbert. Jimmy owned and operated Mobile Wash Incorporated for many years, starting it in 1972. A loyal member of Concordia Lutheran Church, he had been active in scouts, supported the FFA and enjoyed volunteer work. In 2006, Jimmy received Rotary's honorable “Service Above Self” award and in 2007, he received the FFA honorary State Farmer degree. Jimmy never met a stranger and gave tirelessly of himself, both in time and resources to many good causes. Always smiling, Jimmy loved life, loved his church and church family, but most of all, he loved all of his family, who he fondly spoke of often. Jimmy was a wonderful asset to our community and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Family members left with cherished memories include his wife of 34 years, Judy S. Ritchie; his sons, Eddie Ritchie and wife Elizabeth, Jason Ritchie and wife, Jenni, and Tommy Schenck; his daughter, Delana Davis; brothers, Ray Ritchie (Kay), Robert Ritchie, Lee Goodnight (Hilda) and Frank Goodnight (Diane); his much loved grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob and James Ritchie; his granddog, Streak; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., in the family life center of Concordia Lutheran Church. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Jimmy's life will begin at 3 p.m., Wednesday in the church, conducted by Rev. Ken Reed and Rev Dr. Larry Bost. Jimmy will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Memorials: Memorials may be made in Jimmy's name to Concordia Lutheran Church, c/o Youth Group, or the Playground Fund, 185 Concordia Church Rd., China Grove, NC 28023. On-line condolences may be made to the family at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com. Whitley's Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Ritchie family.

Jimmy had the innate ability to make people feel special. It is cliché to say "he never met a stranger", but that was Jimmy in a nutshell. He was so generous with his time and kind words. He will be deeply missed by so many in the Landis/China Grove area. I will miss my friend. My sincere condolences to his family, especially Judy, Eddie and Jason.

So sorry to hear about Jimmy passing away. I just stopped by his house a few months ago and spent time talking with him on his front porch. We laughed and talked about the past and "Ole Roy". Jimmy was a very nice man who always made me feel welcome any time I was around him. He will be deeply missed. Judy, Eddie, Jason, Tommy & Delana you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
