Julius "Butch" Bivens III

1949 - 2023

Julius Hufham Bivens III (Butch), 74, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023 at his home in China Grove. He was born on July 15, 1949 in Albemarle. He was the son of J.H. Bivens Jr. (Pedro) and Elvira Underwood Bivens (Sunshine). Butch graduated in 1967 from Albemarle High School in Albemarle and in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee. Butch was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove.

Butch served as the Director of Maintenance for the Rowan Salisbury School System and the Director of Public Works for the Town of China Grove. He was a member of the China Grove Service Club (formally Civitan International Club) and China Grove Planning Board/Board of Adjustments.

Some of the other China Grove and Rowan County organizations that he had previously been involved with were the China Grove Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, China Grove Town Council, the China Grove Fire Department as a volunteer fireman, Professional Energy Manager Certification, Rowan County Historic Landmarks Commission, and Rowan-Cabarrus Metropolitan Planning Organization.

His caring and support for others was a constant in his life. He enjoyed makiing friend wherever he went.

Those left ot cherish him are his wife, Shair; daughter, Brie Bivens-Hager and son-in-law, Jeff; granddaughter, Faith Hager; aunt, Betty Harper; and cousins, Andy Harper, John Harper and Jim Harper.

Arrangements: There will be a graveside service at Palmerville Baptist Church Cemetary - 40166 Palmerville Road, Badin, NC on Friday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. There will be no visitation.
