Michael B. Mangan, age 77, of Salisbury, NC, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, NC.
Mike was born on December 24, 1947 in Utica, NY to the late Lawrence and Frances Mangan. He graduated from Indian Hills High School in Oakland, NJ, and attended Farleigh Dickinson University, majoring in broadcasting. He also attended Columbia School of Broadcasting in New York City and studied announcing, music and journalism.
After more than 50 years of service in the radio business, he retired from WSTP Radio in Salisbury in 2015. At the time he was General Manager and partial owner of the station. He worked in various radio markets in Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and Utica, New York prior to moving to North Carolina in 1971.
Prior to WSTP in Salisbury, he was employed at WSAT in Salisbury as a disc jokey and sales manager. He was an active member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, having served as usher and deacon. Mike was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan attending many games and watching every game on television. He lived and breathed beach music and early rock and roll music. He also loved Elvis Presley and his music. He collected many records and CD's of all music.
Mike loved his grandchildren and enjoyed, along with his wife Darcell, taking his grandchildren, Alyssa and Dylan, to Pigeon Forge and the beach, He enjoyed the yearly family vacations taken to the beach and the mountains.
As well as his parents preceding him in death, his brothers Terry, Dennis and Patrick Mangan preceded him in death.
Mike is survived by his wife, Darcell, whom he married in 1992; his son, Tim (Charity) Mangan and granddaughter, Rainey; his daughter, Tangelee Mangan; his step-son, Jeremy (Michelle) Bates and grandchildren, Alyssa and Dyan Bates; sisters, Kate McNamara (Tom) of Waterville, NY, Maureen Finn of Baldwinsville, NY; brother, Kevin Mangan (Carmen) of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Jennell (Dan) Deziel of Salisbury, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday (March 13) at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday (March 14) at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park.
