Reba Lake Branham, age 89, of Sanford, N.C. passed away Saturday February 10, 2024 at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center.
She was born in Saltville, Virginia on October 28, 1934 to the late Waldon Dallas Branham and Elizabeth Schultz Hayter Branham. Reba grew up in Saltville, playing basketball and cheering for the Saltville High Shakers. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Emory and Henry College with the intent of completing nursing school. She put her college career on hold to begin a family, but her desire to serve those in need remained her passion throughout her life.
This was clear to all who knew her. She never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile, and most likely a hug. During her time working as a “scrub nurse” in the obstetric unit through her ultimate career in banking, beginning as a teller, and retiring after several years in management, she took care of people.
Reba “Nana” loved everyone and she made sure you knew it, but she especially loved her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Whenever she could be with them, she visited, including cheering them on from the sidelines where there was no mistaking who she was supporting.
Her friends are too many to count, and her family is blessed beyond measure to have been able to have been loved by such a special mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother!
Reba is survived by her daughter Lisa Chapman and son-in law Jeffrey of Sanford, grandchildren Brandon Chapman and wife Lindsay of Sanford, Katie Taulbee and husband Eli of Olympia, Washington, and two amazing great-grandchildren, Gracyn and Calan Chapman, and one more on the way. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Frankie Branham of Dillwyn, Va., and several special nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, were her parents and her siblings (George Branham, Leo Branham, June DeBord, and Vivian Moore) as well as her beloved son, Donnie McNew, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Milford Hills United Methodist Church in Salisbury, NC. Following the visitation, the funeral service will be held at 2:00 at Milford Hills United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Knollkreg Memorial Park Cemetery in Abingdon, Virginia.
