Ruby Maxine Mason

Ruby Maxine Mason, 87 years of age, of New London, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 Mrs. Mason was born November 4, 1929 to the late Lee Roy and Janie Arey Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Barnes and great-granddaughter, Eris Grace Mason. Ruby served as Director of Financial Aid at Pfeiffer University for 35 years. Ruby was a life-long member of Bethel United Methodist Church, serving in every church committee as chairperson, including Sunday School teacher and choir member. She also was a dedicated member of the UMW, serving in many offices for the Western District Conference. Ruby served the Woodmen of the World organization, serving as treasurer until her death. Besides serving God, her church, and her community, Ruby's passion lay in her children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, June 2, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 am located at Bethel United Methodist Church in New London officiated by Rev. Kevin McCormac, Rev. Carol Flack and Rev. Boyd Joyce. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include husband of 69 years, Roy Mason; son, Gordon Mason and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Dusty Mason and wife Lauren, Allison Patrick and husband Thomas; great-grandchildren, Tyson and Emree Patrick, Bex and McClure Mason; brother-in-law Walter Mason.
