Algie Hudson Obituary
ALGIE LUKE HUDSON
Beloved
Born February 27,1932, in Junction UT to Wenzel and Viola Brinkerhoff Luke. She passed away May 3, 2025 at home of natural causes in Lake Havasu City AZ.
Algie was a feisty no-nonsense person with a ribald sense of humor. She was an amazing wife, incredible mother, unmatched grandmother the greatest grandma (grandma great), sister and friend this world had the honor of knowing. She was a very good singer a talent she possessed without formal training, this along with her love of classical music brought her great joy. She had a 35-year career as a nurse with IHC her second greatest joy after her family. A fun fact she also was a grandniece of Robert Leroy Parker aka "Butch Cassidy" through his sister Lula.
Little is known about the years in Junction other than the struggle with the effects of the great depression. Algie is the second of six children. At the age of 14 the family moved to Roosevelt UT where her father had purchased a farm to grow hay and raise sheep. While working the soda fountain at Marion's she met Richard G Hudson (Dick) they married on September 2, 1950.
Dick was then deployed to Korea from November 1950 to November 1951 with USMC. Upon returning they moved to Tomahawk Wi. To begin their life and family, Gary and Paul were added to the family. In 1954 Dick joined the Wisconsin State Patrol and was assigned to Appleton where Bruce and Mike were added to the family. From there we moved to Eau Claire, at this time Dick left the force.
This allowed Algie to return to her home, we settled in SLC because "it does not snow "being from Wisconsin this was a big plus. Ironically the day we moved into the family home in Sandy where Algie remained until her relocation to. AZ the city received 19" of snow.
Once settled in Sandy she was called as a mutual teacher where the young ward members referred to her as "Sister Seaweed"a nickname she claimed with humor and pride until her passing.
1964 brings the final member to the family Chris. Shortly before Chris's birth they solemnized their marriage in the SL Temple. This finalized what Algie referred to as " My Boys". With his arrival we launched 0n a 12 year odyssey of intrigue and adventure creating precious memories galore to numerous or private to list here. Annual trips to Flamming Gorge and Lake Powell, most weekends were spent at grandpa's farm or at the local lakes surrounding SLC. This was so frequent that that ward members accused us of towing our "tithing" down the road, to which multiple bishops responded with at least they do it as family and as family we did. We loved laughed played and fought never breaking rank and always circling the wagons in times of distress.
This time came to an end as "My Boys" found wives and began families of their own, which brought her incredible amounts of joy, she was blessed with 9 grandchildren. This kept her busy and happy until June 13, 1994, the darkest day in Algie's life when she lost her youngest child to "panic disorder". As a granddaughter stated it created an unfillable hole in her soul.
In the following years she was able to partially fill the void by concentrating on her grand and great-grandchildren filling them with unforgettable memories. The one they all talk about to this day is the promotion to the "Christmas Cookie" decorating table, a rite of passage afforded each and every one of them.
As a lifelong member of the LDS church her fondest dream was fulfilled in 1995 when they were called to the Nauvoo Mission something she was out of character and too timid to request. Upon their return health concerns of Dick's required a move to Lake Havasu City AZ in 1999. Algie lost Dick on January 17, 2005, ending their sojourn together. The following years were troubled due to complications beyond her control straining communications thankfully this was somewhat rectified before her passing.
She is preceded in death by her parents a brother and 2 sisters her husband Dick and her baby Chris and several nephews. She is survived by her sons Gary, Paul, Bruce, and Mike. Her grandchildren Ashley, Corey, Brad, Mike, Randi, Jamie, Cody, and Morgan. Her great-grandchildren Sage, Phenyx, Nathan, Camryn, Jessie, CJ, and a grandniece Paige.
So, mother we hope you now can consider your life a success because by every measure it was. You have left a legacy of love, caring and service. We thank you we will miss you and cherish our time with you forever. Farewell we love you to much to measure.
As you wish " My Boys"
