CHIEKO SHIBA Obituary

Chieko Miya Shiba 1925 ~ 2010 St. George, UT - Chieko Miya Shiba, 85, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, passed away on September 26, 2010 from complications of cancer surgery. She was born August 30, 1925 in Clearfield, Utah to Nakaemon and Seki Miya. She married Yoshio Shiba January 29, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She worked several clerical positions retiring from Utah Power & Light Co. in 1991. All during her life she was dedicated to helping her brothers on the family farm located in northern Utah. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends to various places around the world. Her engaging and compassionate personality made friends wherever she went. She always listened to what people had to say and everyone would go to her for advice. She is survived by her husband, Yosh and daughter DeeAnn Bassett (Jim), brothers; Minoru Miya (Ume), Shigeru Miya (Mary), Hideo Miya (Betty), Yukio Miya (Shigemi) grandchildren; Jason Shiba, Ashley Shiba, Alisa Shiba, Nicholas Bassett, Colton Bassett, great grandchildren; Brody Shiba, Katelyn Henderson. Preceded in death by a sister, Toriko Miya and a son, Steven Shiba. A small family service was held September 28 at 10 a.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. St. George, UT. "A Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
