Craig Froehlich Obituary

Craig Froehlich 1971 ~ 2008 Craig died Monday, August 11 after a long battle with alcoholism and depression. He left behind many devastated friends and family members who still remember him in his most happy and inspired moments. They include sister Carmen Watkins and her three daughters, brother Kevin Froehlich, mother Gertrud Anderson, father Darryl Froehlich and love of his life Sandra Palacios, whom he met in 1996. Born in Dearborn, Mich. on Oct. 21, 1971, Craig moved to Salt Lake City in 1994 and completed his BA in Mass Communications at the University of Utah in 2002. He wrote for several local publications, including the Daily Utah Chronicle, RED Magazine, The Salt Shaker and Salt Lake City Weekly. He worked on campus for several years, first as a security guard and later at the University of Utah Hospital as a financial advisor to patients. Craig was a ferocious reader, a lover of literature, history, humor, music, film and the culinary arts. He brought these loves to his own writing, which was always funny, insightful and informed. Those who had the pleasure of his company remember a caring and funny man who never hesitated to say what was on his mind, and who was interested in and sometimes bewildered by the people around him. He often expressed love through his cooking, using his excellent taste in ingredients and knowledge of the person who would be eating the food. Craig will be missed every day.
