Dale Nielson Obituary

Dale J. Nielson "Bose" The morning of November 13, 2008, our dear mother kissed her eternal sweetheart goodbye for now. Dale J. Nielson passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife, Bonnie. He was born June 2, 1924, in Ephraim, Utah, the youngest of eleven children born to James Franklin Nielson and Josephine Johanson Nielson. He was the last surviving child of that family. Dad spent his early years on the farm in Ephraim, where he learned the value of hard work. He played basketball at Snow College. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was dedicated to General Electric for 35 years. Dad married his Jr. High sweetheart and love of his life, Bonnie Lorraine Christensen, January 3, 1944. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple. As children, we were blessed with parents who were never far from each other's sight. Our Dad loved the mountains, hunting, fishing, golfing and being with his boys. His sons and grandsons have cherished memories of learning the lessons of life while working and playing alongside their hero. Dad always had a special spot in his heart for his wonderful daughters and granddaughters. His later years were spent keeping neighbors and friends stocked with fresh vegetables and fixing what needed to be fixed. When things were taken care of, he loved to go traveling with his sweetheart in their fifth-wheel! He was a genuine friend to everyone of all ages! Dad has been a most avid booster of Highland High athletics for over 50 years. Dad has left a legacy of love and devotion to family. After 64 years of marriage, he is survived by his sweetheart, Bonnie; their seven children: Jerry Sandack, Janean (Russ) Sonntag, Courtney (Stephanie), Debra Smuin, Brad (Kristi), Suzanne (Jeff) Heninger, Chris (Heidi), 24 amazing grandchildren, 18 adoring great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to those who cared so lovingly for Dad at St. Mark's Hospital, St. Joseph's Villa and the incredible dignity shown to both him and our family at the Residence of Care Source. Special thanks to family member Dr. Kyle Enslin for all the loving care over the years. Funeral services will be held Wed., November 19, 2008, at noon in the Crystal Heights 2nd Ward, 1970 E. Stratford Avenue (2560 S.), Salt Lake City. Viewings will be Tues. 6- 8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 S. and 10:30- 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Online condolences at www.larkincares.com

Suzanne and family,
I just read last Sunday's paper and noticed that your Dad had passed away. I'm sure you are missing him terribly - may God's love and peace surround you when relief from sadness seems so far away. Reading that he loved the mountains and fishing reminded me that your Dad first taught me to fish that time at Flaming Gorge. I think that was my first and only successful fishing experience! You're in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. With love, Brenda (Halton) Wilson

So Sorry for your loss. Last night I went to my Grandpa's house (Ray Johanson) and he informed me that his cousin Dale had passed away and he was planning on going to the funeral the following day. He spoke very highly of Dale and had very good memories of the two of them togeather mostly fishing. I did not know Dale personally, but wanted to inform you that Ray Johanson really thought a lot of Dale.

Dear Bonnie & Family, you wouldn't remember me, but as I read Dale's obituary, many happy memories of Ephraim flowed through my mind. I remember going through the "Gate" to Uncle Frank & Aunt Josephine's house. My Maternal Grandparents are Joe "Mons" and Marie Nielson, Joe & Frank are brothers. My mother is Grace Nielson Olsen. My brothers were Bob Mel & Jack Olsen. Aunt Helen Nielson Shipley passed away in June. She, like Dale was the last of the siblings in Joe's family.
I grew up in Park City with Vi and Merrill Sanchez, (above).
My love and prayers are with you at this time.

Sincerely, Jolene Olsen Prickett
