I am so sorry to have just been advised of Dan's passing from Ellie when I sent a note to wish him a happy birthday, we didn't talk as much as we should've. I've known Dan since 1956-57 when the family moved to Clyde Park, we graduated from CPHS in'58 he was a great friend...hunting trip with him and family back in the early 60's to an old cabin in the "breaks", what a good time we had....I'll miss our phone calls and friendship, bless you Dan and your family.

My memories of Dan are when we were invited to the wedding of his daughter, Pam, to our son, John. Dan took us on, a nice, long walk of the area near where he lives. We saw salt flats, coal mines, ice and rock slides, and a place where movies are made. His tour made us feel right at home in Salt Lake City. After the tour, he took us home for a moose dinner, right from his own catch. His daughter, Pam, helped him cook it and get it ready. Dan gave me a pin from his Marshal days and a wonderful Indian relic he made himself just for me. Everyone enjoyed Dan's company and he was happy to host us all. Best of memories and may you also be blessed just be thinking about him! Linda for The Johnson family

Dear Ellie and family,
We all know there is a day when our love ones must leave us but we are never ready to let them go. I was so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I expected him to be there forever and I will miss our phone calls - even the butt ones! have known Dan since the 70's as a coworker and friend. He was one of the "good guys" always helpful and always kind. I'm so sorry his dialysis stopped his travels to see his beloved children and grandchildren. His family meant everything to him. Bless you all and may you find peace that he is waiting for you with open arms to continue that loving life he shared with all of you.

Our condolences to the Dotson family. I had the honor & privilage to know and work with Dan. He was a true gentleman. My wife Stephanie met Dan when I was attending a Chief Deputy Training in SLC. Dan offered to show our spouses interesting sites there. She enjoyed her tour.
Rest in Peace Marshal Daniel Dotson Our Prayers are with you

I was very sorry to hear of Dan's passing. My deepest condolences go to his family. He is one of the good ones. I loved working for Dan. He made sure you knew that you were an asset to the office.
I enjoyed our morning runs in downtown SLC. A funny thing was how loud he spoke when we were close to the end. That guy had one of the strongest grips I've ever felt. If you were feeling froggy and wanted to test your grip strength, he was more than willing to give you a shot. He always won. He made me a cowboy belt and a knife scabbard from leather, that still use today. Dan was definitely a man's man. I owe him a lot. He took a shot on a kid, he barely knew, from Roy and gave me a start with the US Marshals. I will always be grateful. I was fortunate to travel to DC with Dan. He had been assigned there during his Marshal's career. I got an up close and personal guided tour of the monuments and memorials. I got to hear a lot of great stories from his deputy days. Sad to say, there are very few men like Dan. I was very lucky to have worked for him. He will be missed. Thank you Dan!

I'm so sorry to hear that Dan passed away. My condolences to his family. Dan was my mentor and friend. When I became the Chief Deputy Marshal in Montana I often reached out for his advice and guidance. He could always be trusted to be there when needed. I'm sorry that I can't be there to celebrate his life but my thoughts and prayers will be with all.

At 68 years of age I've often reflected back on my life. And when I do or have chatted with friends about it, I've often told stories about Daniel. I worked for him as a young Deputy US Marshal. He to this day has stayed close to my heart. He instilled and demanded integrity, honesty, loyalty, and pride in our work in the SLC Office. I've worked for a large amount of people in my 29 years in law enforcement. NONE any better than Daniel....none !
He provided us with everything we needed for success. A safe, clean, and responsible office. And a equally amazing supervisor in Jerry Smith. I am who I am today directly because of Daniel and all he did for everyone.
I've never met a fairer and more honorable man in my life. Let alone one as funny as him. We worked extremely hard and had a tremendous amount of fun and laughter doing it.
Daniel, I love you....always have and always will. If I'm lucky enough to get thru the gates of heaven I know I will hear the word , "Yummmmmm". God bless the Dotson family. God Bless you Daniel.
