Darren Pyper Obituary

Darren K Pyper

1959-2024

Salt Lake City, UT-Darren K Pyper passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 2024, 2 months shy of his 65th birthday. He was born May 16,1959 to Dean A Pyper and Marilyn M Ridd Pyper. He was the 3rd of 6 children.

Darren was a complicated person who lived a simple life. People who knew him would say he lived life on his own terms, a nonconformist. He had a big heart although he didn't want anyone to know that. He had a habit of wanting to help others even though he needed help himself.

When he was younger he would design games and had a way of galvanizing groups of friends. He always had his nose inside the good old Colliers encyclopedias. He loved to read and keep himself informed when possible. Loved animals and was fascinated with nature and space and would most likely choose to watch documentaries pertaining to such.

He worked in the fencing industry for several years and was a hard worker. He took pride in the various types of fencing projects he helped build, particularly concrete. Unfortunately back issues came about later and he could no longer work. He struggled in life after that as work was his life.

He married Gael A Allan in 1980 and later divorced. They had 1 daughter, Heather Lynn.

Preceded in death are his parents Marilyn in 2016, Dean in 2019 and daughter Heather also in 2019.

He is survived by his siblings Laurie (Robert) Gallegos, Shelly Loomer, Julie (Jeff) Sanders, Shawn Pyper and Scott Pyper. Numerous nephews and nieces, and 1 son.

Thanks to all who looked out for him and did the best they could.

Darren wouldn't have wanted any fuss surrounding him, but a small memorial gathering will take place this summer. His ashes will be spread from UT to MT as he always wanted to make that trip, but was never able to.

I too remember growing up next to Darren and his family.Being the younger sister of best friends, I remember that when Darren was around, an adventure was going to begin. Through out the years he and Rob kept in touch and there was never a gathering of the Wards that didn't include asking how Darren was doing.
I will always remember him as being kind, hard working and admiring his resourcefulness.
To the Pyper family my deepest condolences, family is still family even though your paths may go different ways.
I may not have been a friend, but I'm glad I got to watch from the sidelines.

I grew up next to Darren, we started off by throwing rocks at each other. We came of age together along with other friends in the neighborhood. I was at his wedding. I always remember exploring our neighborhood until the early morning as kids.
We went our own ways in life but kept in touch with each other. The sad part is that alcohol addiction played a part in his unfulfilled potential. When he was sober he was Darren. I always considered him one of my best friend.

I met Darren in 1971. We had a great childhood running around and getting in the kind of innocent trouble that boys get into. Climbing on the roof at Woodstock Elementary to retrieve playground balls, building dirt forts in empty fields and riding our bikes everywhere...We got together again later in life when we were in our 30's and 40's. Darren was a smart as they come and definitely non-conforming. I always loved his loyalty to his friends and was honored that he called me one of them. RIP Darren.
