David Clouse Obituary

David Robert Clouse
1967 ~ 2016
Salem, OR-David Robert Clouse, 48, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2016 from multiple organ failure due to an acute infection, with family and a dear friend by his side.
David was born on October 25, 1967 to Robert Elwood Clouse and Colene Bench Clouse. Being the youngest of three siblings and the only boy his older sisters were the bane of his existence until he was old enough and big enough to get even.
David graduated from Granite High, home of the farmers in 1986, where he was a student body officer, played Legion baseball and lettered in football. Dave spent 2 years in France before returning home to attend BYU, play rugby and actually go on to receive a Masters in Public Policy. He worked for the State of Utah as a Legislative Auditor before leaving Utah for Salem, Oregon where he worked for the State of Oregon eventually ending up in their Forestry Department.
He loved to travel, spending time in Europe, Canada, Costa Rica and various destinations here in the states. When traveling in France for a family trip, we were stopped by the Gendarme police, asked what we were doing and questioned about running drugs in the VW van we had rented with mom and dad sitting in the back seat, priceless. His one liner from that trip was "you'll get nothing and like it." Dave loved spending time outdoors hiking, mountain biking and touring on his KTM motorcycle. In 1999 he participated in the Wasatch 100 run finishing with the time of 34:15:08, not record setting but not bad for someone battling the stomach flu throughout the entire race.
He had a sense of humor about life which he did not lose even in the last week knowing there would be no other outcome but an end. I would like to thank MaryAnn Young Blake for trusting her intuition knowing that something just didn't seem right. It gave me the gift of spending precious time with Dave to laugh at shared memories and more importantly I was able to let him know how much he meant to me.
He is survived by his mother Colene, Sister Shirley (Jim) Slaugh, Vernal, niece, Brenda Slaugh and nephew, Jacob Slaugh.
He is preceded in death by his father Robert E. Clouse, and sister, Brenda Clouse.
As per David's wishes there will be no funeral but a "Celebration of Life" on April 2, 2106, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Kick N' It Sports Grill, 4883 South State Street, Murray, UT.
In lieu of flowers please take the time to tell those in your life just how much they mean to you. A special "Thank You" to the staff at Salem Health for the care and support they gave not just to Dave but to us as a family. Rest in peace David. Love, Squirs.

Always wished I could have been as good and kind as David. He was "the guy" at Millcreek and everyone loved him. Very much enjoyed playing volleyball with him. Was thinking of him as I started playing again recently. Some people just leave their mark on others, and even though I hadn't seen him since 7th grade, I thought of him often.

I'm so sorry to hear about David's passing. I worked with him at the auditor's office for a few years and we became good friends. I admired his wit, charm, intellect, and his tan Florsheim Imperial wing tips. He was also a heck of an athlete. I trained for and ran the Wasatch 100 with him. He beat me by more than an hour, even with a bad stomach. I always looked forward to our training runs because he had good stories and made them fun. I always think about Dave when I hear a Dave Matthews Band song. He will be missed!

This is such sad, sad news. I am grateful for the memories of David: his charm, his intensity, being our quarterback, the VW Squareback, the snakeskin boots, his humor, and I can't hear a Clash song without thinking of him. God bless his mom and sister and family. Please accept my deepest condolences. May his memory be eternal.

I had lost contact with Dave over the years but a lot of my memories from high school have him in them. I'll share some at the celebration. I am extremely saddened by his loss. We spent a lot of time together playing baseball. I sure loved him!! Rob Harding

I remember dressing Dave up in girls clothes, jumping on the tramp, and playing kick soccer baseball in front of our houses. He was always sweet and easy to love. He was never mean to others and always friendly. May God bless his family with peace and comfort. I love you!

Colene:
I am so very sorry to hear about David! It seems only yesterday he was hanging out with Stephanie. She had only good things to say about him. Reading his obituary, he was quite an accomplished young man. You have had so many losses. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
