David Evans Obituary

David Mathew Evans

Mar. 30, 1954-Oct. 1, 2025

David Mathew Evans, known to all as Dave, was born to Owen Artie Evans and Mary Peterlich Evans in Midvale, Utah, on March 30, 1954. He grew up alongside his two brothers, Mike and John. As a child, Dave and his friends often played along the Jordan River until it was time for dinner-which he dared not be late for. During those years, Dave and his friends roamed freely on their bikes, unconstrained by the distractions of cell phones or computers, always knowing they had to be home by sunset.

Dave graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1972 and later attended Trade Tech, where he studied to become an electrician. However, he soon realized that electrical work was not his passion. In fact, he disliked all types of handyman work and often quipped that "those tradespeople need a living too-and I'm happy to pay them for it." Dave found his true talent as a machinist, working for Bonneville Machine for 20 years. In 1994, he started his own business, Western States Metals. Dave considered himself fortunate to work alongside family and friends, and most of his customers became more than clients-they became friends. To Dave, work was more than a job; it was his passion. Even on some of his hardest days, he found solace in going to work, and did so up until the week before he passed.

On May 12, 1990, Dave married Donna Crawford. He was born in Midvale, Utah and she in Houston, Texas. Their upbringings couldn't have been more different. He often remarked that, while they married quickly, it took ten years to figure out how to live together. Dave and Donna raised three wonderful children-Jessica, Aron, and Megan-whom he loved dearly. Jessica married Jason Dunoskovic, who gave Dave two darling grandsons, Enzo and Milan. Megan married Hassan Ali, and they are now expecting their first child, Zaeem by the end of this year. Dave especially loved being a grandfather and was so looking forward to the birth of Megan and Hassan's baby boy.

The entire Evans family-Dave's parents, his brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends-played a huge part in his life as an adult. Together, they attended countless small-town events in Midvale, including Midvale Harvest Days, the Lion's Club Father's Day Breakfast, and the Fourth of July parade and fireworks. The Evans clan, along with their neighbors, were always a staple at these events. Dave could always be counted on to show up for his children, attending all their basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball games to show his support. The memories made during what might have seemed like ordinary moments were extraordinary in so many ways. Dave never met a stranger, was a friend to all he met, and touched countless lives in the process.

Dave lost his battle to cancer on October 1, 2025. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna Evans; their children Jessica, Aron, and Megan; and three grandchildren, Enzo, Milan, and Zaeem. He is also survived by his sons-in-law Jason Dunoskovic and Hassan Ali, his brothers Mike and John Evans, and his sisters-in-law Cherrie and Nannette Evans.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in Dave's honor on Friday, October 10 at 3:30 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 610 South 1100 East, followed by a Celebration of Life at Emigration Cafe beginning at 5 p.m.
