David Fernau Obituary

David Werner Fernau 1928 ~ 2008 David Werner Fernau, age 80, passed away on August 29, 2008 in Highland, Utah.He was born May 1, 1928 to "Tex" Werner and Alta Johnson Fernau. David spent his childhood in Tooele, Utah where he graduated from Tooele High School in 1946. He then served in the United States Navy for two years in Jacksonville, Florida. David graduated from Utah State University in 1952 with a BS degree in Business Education. After graduating from college he served his country again in San Antonio, Texas as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. David worked for Univac for 25 years and retired in 1983. David married his sweetheart Jacqueline Hill Fernau on May 21, 1954 in Tooele, Utah. David was a wonderful husband who cherished his relationship with his wife for 54 loving years. In the last two and a half years, he only missed two days in visiting his wife at the Alpine Alzheimer's Care Center, until he no longer had the strength to do so. He was a loving father who always put his children's interests before his own. David was always the one that his children could count on for direction, strength and love. He was the rock of his family that everyone stood on during difficult and loving times. Loyal friendship was very important to David and he felt very blessed to have experienced many special friends that made his time on this earth a rewarding and enjoyable journey. David was preceded in death by his parents "Tex" and Alta Fernau, son Jack Fernau, brother Richard Fernau, sister Karen Lewis and sister-in-law Patsy Fernau. He will be greatly missed by his wife Jacqueline, daughters Jill Woods (Kevin), Stacey Oleksa (Mark), son Tim Fernau (Cindy), five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Brad Garner and Marriner Merril, the Pinnacle Hospice staff who so lovingly took care of him through the last months of his life and a special thanks to his daughter Jill and son-in-law Kevin who with unending love and patience took care of dad in their home for the last year as he battled cancer. Per David's request, graveside services will be held for family and friends Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Tooele City Cemetery. Tim,
I just learned of your father's passing. I wanted to pay my respects to you and your family. I know how hard it is to say good-bye to your father, and it doesn't matter how old you are, he is your parent and friend. Having lost both my parents I know it's hard at any age because you always need them. I know you will see him again. I have no doubt about it and it will be quite a reunion. Tim, I enjoy working with you at Salt Lake County Parks and Rec and look forward to your appearance in my office and a happy "ole' " for me. I consider you a friend and wish you and your family the best. Please extend my condolences to all your family and may God bless you and extend his arm of love and comfort to you during this trying time. With fondest wishes.

Although I did not know Dave well, he was a member of our extended family. May the Lord extend his blessings on the entire family.
