David Lyon Obituary

1928 ~ 2012
David Waldemar Lyon passed away at his home in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday evening, December 18, 2012 following a cancer diagnosis a week earlier. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT to Thomas Edgar and Hermana Forsberg Lyon on July 9, 1928. His childhood and adult life was shared with five remarkable brothers: John (deceased), Jamie, Lauri (deceased), Ted and Joseph Lynn Lyon. He graduated from Granite High School and earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Utah. While attending the university, he met his sweetheart-Lois Taylor, and they married August 1, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They built a life together based on 32 years of love, hard work, service, and a shared commitment to the gospel. Lois passed away, October 5, 1982. They were blessed with eight children: David (deceased), Michael, Kathy McLain, Eric, Heidi Hansen, Daniel, Lorelee Quist and Mark (deceased) and their spouses: Jo Ann, Von, Sally, David, Christine and Ronald. David was blessed with 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. After Lois's passing he met and married his beloved Margene Douglas in the temple on September 22, 1984, joining together their two beautiful families. David and Margene loved each of them dearly. They spent 28 wonderful years together traveling the world, serving a mission in Nauvoo, IL and caring for one another. David is survived by Margene and her five sons: Kurt, Clay, Bradley, Lance, and Wade and their spouses: Vicki, Laura, Marsha, Lisa and Cyndi along with 18 Douglas grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. At 5 he accompanied his parents to the Netherlands where his father served as mission president. David successfully co-owned and managed Wasatch Electric-leaving a legacy in the electrical industry, designing and building power lines throughout the country. He served faithfully in many different leadership capacities for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He will be remembered as a devoted dad and grandpa, gifted engineer, master builder, amazing teacher, serious scholar, and fascinating storyteller, blessing us with his integrity, selfless generosity, intelligence, knowledge, and ingenuity. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Am. Cancer Society for Cancer Research or a charity of your choice.

I grew up down the street from the Lyon family, and have fond memories of them. Brother Lyon was a friend of my father, Waldemar Arlt, and I remember him coming to our home to discuss books, Church, or engineering with my dad. May you find comfort from your special memories in the days, months and years.
