Delores Shuping Obituary

Delores "Jo" JoAnn Shuping

1931 ~ 2024

Millcreek, Utah-Delores JoAnn Stoddard "Mattox" Shuping a devoted wife and mother, life-long golf enthusiast, skier and world traveler died peacefully on November 28, 2024, with her loving children, by her side.

JoAnn, an only child, was born on October 12, 1931, to Blanche and James Stoddard from Sandoval, IL. She graduated from McKendree University, Lebanon, IL in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music.

Throughout JoAnn's life, she was happiest while on the golf course, snow skiing in the mountains, hunting for railroad or mining antiques with her husband, Robert Shuping Jr., and/or listening to "The King of Cool" Dean Martin. While working at Frigidaire in St. Louis, MO JoAnn met the love of her life, Robert Shuping Jr. They married and had three children; Michelle Hawes, Michael Shuping and Tracy Jeffs.

JoAnn was a deeply caring, supportive wife and mother, always happy to follow her husband (Bob) throughout his career. From Chicago to St. Louis and finally to Provo Utah where she devoted her life to making a loving and beautiful home for her family.

JoAnn's talents were endless, she could turn any discarded item into a beautiful piece of art and always welcomed what odd mining / train antique that her husband, Bob, brought home to her of which JoAnn was able to add so very tastefully to their home décor.

Along with being an accomplished pianist, wife and mother, she was always willing and able to join Bob on the ski slopes, golf course, motorcycle riding, camel riding and so much more. JoAnn lived without fear and was always willing to take on a challenge.

When Bob decided to retire from General Refractories in 1993, they moved to Peoria, AZ. They quickly became members of Union Hills Country Club where they made many dear friends and enjoyed retirement to its fullest, playing golf, traveling and visiting family.

JoAnn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who always had a smile on her face, welcomed old and new friends, and looked forward to her next travel adventure.

JoAnn is survived by her three children Michelle & Bob Hawes (Suncadia, WA), Michael Shuping & Thom Sawyer (Salt Lake City, UT) and Tracy & Rob Jeffs (American Fork, UT), six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
