DENZIL WATTS Obituary

Denzil Eugene Watts, Jr. "Jerry" Jerry Watts, 78, much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died at home on May 24, 2010, of causes incident to pulmonary fibrosis. He was born March 30, 1932, to Denzil Eugene and Irma Sanders Watts. A lifelong resident of Murray, Jerry made the most of the time he was given. He loved anything that went fast - cars, snowmobiles, boats, planes - but he was happy to slow down and savor bear hugs, tickle fights, and Texas Hold 'Em with his kids and grandkids, too. Jerry was civically-minded, serving in both the U.S. Air Force and community organizations such as Rotary; he was also a dedicated professional, whether selling Christmas trees or running his own construction company, Jerico Construction; but he was most proud of his church service, which ranged from bishop to temple worker to missionary in Malaysia. Genealogy was his passion in later years. Jerry was an adventurer, jack-of-all-trades and joke-teller extraordinaire. He will be sorely missed! Survived by wife, DaNece Steele Lyman Watts; children Denise (Kevin) Henson, Lisa (Clayne) Larsen, Hal (Sharon) Gregory, SheriLynn Erickson, Cathryn (Joe) Tucker, Kimberly Watts, Chip (Tracy) Watts and Jeff Watts; and sisters Pat (Gail) Hansen and Lynne (Willard) Loomis; 28 grandchildren and six great-grand-children. Preceded in death by parents, wives Joan Frear Watts and Gayle Cox Gregory Watts, and sister Jane Flygare. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m, Saturday, May 29th, at the Murray Little Cottonwood Stake Center: 6180 Glenoaks Street (855 East). Viewing Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, and one hour prior to the service at the stake center. Interment at the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery Tuesday at 12:00 noon. Viva Lake Powell! Online condolences: www.jenkins-soffe.com

Grams,
I am sorry to hear of Gramps passing. He was such a wonderful, hardworking, funny, helpful, happy man. I will miss him, but hold onto those good memories of 4 summers at Oakcrest camp were he taught us not only by what he said but by example. Hope the memories help you through this difficult time. We are serving a mission in Australia, so will try to catch up with you when we get back in the summer of 2011.

Dear Aunt Dutch,
Our prayers are with you and are we saddened to hear of Jerry's passing. He is probably glad to move on at this time since his quality of life had failed. Thanks for your great example and for being the aunt that I am named after. I have always looked up to you and I want you to know you have a special place in my heart. You will have to come and live down here in Arizona, at least during the winter months. You are always welcome! Love you lots! Denise and all the Staples Bunch

Dear Grams,
My heart goes out to you. I can only imagine how much you must miss your wonderful husband. I have a great picture from our Oakcrest days where Gramps had been kidnapped and made to wear a dress as he sat tied to a chair on the stage. And there you were on the stage beside him, as you danced and sang to get him back. It takes an amazing man to spend a whole summer at a time surrounded by hundreds of young women and not go crazy. I'm sure many hours were spent that we didn't even see as you both labored willingly and lovingly. All of us Oakcrestites are better off for it. Thank you!
Love, Cloey (Tawnya Goodson Shaner)

Dear DaNece and all of Jerry’s family,

It is with great sadness to our hearts hearing of Jerry’s passing. It has been about 32 years since we lived in Murray when Jerry was our bishop. We learned to love him dearly. He was one of our heroes. It was not possible to visit with Jerry and not come away feeling better from his visit. We have been able to stay in touch with them throughout the years, but we are especially grateful for being able to visit with him and DaNece, the last couple of months.

We send our deepest sympathy to all of his family. We will always remember the goodness of Jerry as long as we live.

May the Lord bless you all at this time, because we all know that Jerry is in a wonderful place with his loved ones that have gone on before.

Love to you all,

Dear Watts Family,
We were very saddened to hear about Jerry. As you know my Father Duane
Thompson passed away on July 21, 2009.
I will always remember the HAPPY
TIMES BOATING TOGETHER !!!
I will always remember how Jerry
drove the "Winni" down to save us and
pull our boat home when our truck
broke down.
That was the trip that Karleene
Bishop and Annette water skied together
for the last time.

I'm so sorry for you loss Grams! I just loved that Gramps! I'm so glad you can be together forever! My favorite memory of Gramps was when we were having a water fight up at Oakcrest, and we were trying to get Gramps, but he had a hose and was "watering the flowers". I got him a little bit with the bucket, but not nearly as much as he got me! He held onto my shirt so I couldn't get away and absolutely drenched me with the hose. Those were good time and Gramps will me missed a lot! I love you Grams!

Dear Watts Family,

We were deeply saddened to hear of Bishop Watts' passing. He has a special place in our hearts. He was so kind and loving to our father when he was sick and took wonderful care of our mother after our father passed away.

We have fond memories of him. He was a kind and gentle man and truly a servant of our Heavenly Father.

Our prayers are with you at this time. May the Lord bless you and comfort you.

Grams, I want to let you know that I sincerely loved Gramps so much! I am very sad to hear of his passing. I remember having water fights with him on the Oakcrest field and in front of your guys' cabin (Juniper). I could barely get him wet and then he'd trap me and spray me non-stop with the hose! He had a quiet sense of humor and he always made me laugh. I am sad he's gone, but I'm glad to know that we'll see him again, and we can have waterfights in Heaven (and then I'll get my revenge). I love YOU so much too, Grams, and I hope you're doing well! Thanks to both of you for being the best Grams and Gramps ever and for all your kind service to us Oakcrest girls. I know I can speak for everyone in saying that we love you with all our hearts! Love, Alabama (Oakcrest 2003) a.k.a. April Despain (Wilde)

We wish to express our Love and condolences to the wonderful family of our friend Jerry and the father of our special Daughter-Law, Lisa. We have felt it a privelege to know him and his wonderful family. They always made us feel welcome and a part of their family.
We will miss his cheerful countenance and association. We know he has graduated to a great reward he has earned on the otherside of the veil. He is now relieved of his great physical sufferings and is enjoying his many family and friends who have proceeded him in the new birth. We express our great love to all of his family, that was so dear to him. May you all gain strength and comfort from your wonderful memoies and example of this great man. With love, Curtiss & Denece Larsen, St George, UT
