Dixie Dixon Obituary

Dixie Dixon
1953 ~ 2017
Dixie Iva Stevens was born April 26, 1953 in Evanston, Wyoming. She passed away surrounded by her family on January 21, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father Calvin Stevens and a brother. She is survived by her mother Ethel Walker (McQueen) and many brothers and sisters.
Dixie graduated from North Summit High School with her lifelong friend Christy Moore in 1971. In October 1972, she married the love of her life, Roy Dixon. They spent the next 45 years side by side raising their two sons, Jared (Misty) Dixon and Cameron (Shannon) Dixon and four grandchildren, Whitley, Mason, Ben, and Kade.
Dixie loved spending time with Roy on horses that they raised and trained on their place. She especially liked flashy paint horses. Dixie was at home on a horse and could do just about anything: team rope, barrel race, cutting, reining or just trailing cattle. She was a good hand and loved going to help on various friends' ranches. She looked forward to gathering cows each fall on the O'Brien ranch in Idaho. There was a special spot in the Uintas where she enjoyed camping and fishing with her family.
Her grandkids were especially important to her, and she loved watching them grow up and compete in high school sports as well as FFA.
Dixie had a special gift with animals and was a vet technician for 23 years. More recently she worked at Toole and Associates Physical Therapy, where she helped many people overcome ailments and was a friend to all.
Dixie's family would like to extend special thanks to Jeanette Vernon and the Coalville Health Center for helping Dixie through the years. The team at Intermountain Medical Center also provided her with excellent care. The family would also like to thank all of those in the community who have provided meals, friendship and support. We would like to particularly recognize Christy (you chain smoker!) and Dixie's special sister Brenda.
Funeral services will be held January 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at the South Fork Lodge, 1955 E South Fork Road, Coalville, Utah. Friends and family will be welcome at this time. A celebration of life will be held following the funeral service at approximately 12:30 pm for all that knew her and wish to attend. Wear your boots and blue jeans and come celebrate Dixie's life with us.

I was placed into foster care when I was 14 years old. I had the privilege of spending some time in the home of the Dixon's. I have thought of this family many times over the years, have wanted to thank them for all they did, I just did not know how to go about doing that. I am saddened to see that Dixie has passed this year, I hope she knows how thankful I am for her and her families hospitality during that short time I was with them.

Dear Roy, Jared and Cam,
I will always remember Dixie and all of our fun memories growing up, riding the school bus, sleep overs, the many horse rides we would go on and being my Maid of Honor at my wedding. I am very sad to know that she had to suffer as she did, but she was so strong until the end and she is now out of pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you all now to stay strong for her because I know that is how she would want it to be. Dixie was one of my closest friends and she will forever be in my heart. RIP Dix.

Ethel and all of Dixie's Family. Dixie was such a caring person if she was working with my animals of myself. She was so gentle and kind. I know no matter how treatment turned out, her heart was always with her patient. Thank you again Dixie.

Oh Dixie you were taken from us way too soon. We had a rocky start to our friendship but as with most things time heals most wounds. We became friends you have been a mentor, teacher, caregiver, and a great friend. You put up with days of Julie and I pulling pranks to scare you. Thanks for the fun memories and being there when I needed a friend. Love you bunches and will miss you always. Big hugs and love to Roy, the boys, and the family.
