Don Overly Obituary

1916 ~ 2012
Don Cornell Overly passed away in Alpine, Utah, on May 9, 2012, due to causes incident to age. He was 96 years old.
He was born May 6, 1916, in Provo, Utah, to William Glen and Beulah Cary Overly. He married Thelma Lucille Conrad on Aug. 23, 1938. Their marriage was later sealed in the Manti temple.
He served in the Army during World War II with the Army Intelligence Corps in the U.S. and Japan.
He coached for 13 years at American Fork High School, later serving as a principal at both the junior high and the new high school. He retired from his position as Supervisor of Secondary Education for Alpine School District in 1978.
Dad was a High Priest in the American Fork Sixth ward for many years and served in many positions.
Always active in sports, he served on the Utah Golf Association board and was elected to the Utah High School Coaches Hall of Fame and Referees Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, and three children: Don Conrad (Aliene) Overly, Susan (Lyle) Van Orden, and Kent (Connie) Overly. He has 10 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. They will all miss his gentle smile and sweet spirit! Hit em' long and straight Dad.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the American Fork 6th Ward, 320 North 100 East. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial American Fork Cemetery. Military rites VFW District 4. Online memories and condolences may be shared at andersonmortuary.com.
