I am saddened at the passing of this fine man. He was so spontaneous with his remarks and ideas. I enjoyed his company. I will miss him

My wife and I both had classes from Dr. Goldthorpe at the U. Maren loved her physiology class from him that she took one summer quarter. Mine was an institute class for new and investigating members of the Church. I took the class with my non-member friend, Keith Ahone, who was investigating the Church. This class was deeply spiritually motivating and my friend accepted baptism into the Church. I had the privilege of baptizing Keith. Dr. Goldthorpe's class was integral to his conversion. We honor his memory and find joy with you in the eternal nature of families.

I took a physiology class from Dr. Goldthorpe in 1969 at the U and thereafter a class every quarter at the Institute until 1972. School and life both were a struggle and his teaching and his person were a tremendous calming influence. I'm not sure I would have made it without him.

We all loved this giving man. He was in a lot of warm and giving hearts. Now passing he can meet with his family and let us all hope that in heaven he is sending down prayers down to each one of us that he has come across and our family. We will all join him when it is our time, but for now he can protect us and watch over us. RIP Grandpa! I love you!

While I was serving as a Bishop, Fred Goldthorpe moved into our ward. I came to know him quite well and grew to love and respect him. It wasn't until we moved away and I hadn't seen him for 2-3 years that a situation came up which to me really showed what a kind thoughtful man he was.
I was in a serious accident and was at home recuperating when the phone rang. I picked it up and said "hello" and here is what I heard. "Goldthorpe here. I hear you have been in an accident. I have a thousand dollars. I'm bringing it out to you."
It took ma a while to explain that I really appreciated his kindness, but I had insurance that covered it.
Most of us in a similar circumstances will say "If there is anything I can do , let me know." Not Fred Goldthorpe. He was a man of few words but with a big heart and his actions
spoke for him.

Pauline, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I lost my father 3 years ago and it is not easy. I dream about him all the time. Your family has allways had a special place in my heart as Brent was one of my best friends! Take notice that there is a life after death and you will see your father and family members again. That I know for sure! May the peace of the lord ease your pain and loss Pauline. Your friend Scott Seyboldt

Bro. Goldthorpe was my Institute teacher at San Fernando Valley State College (now Cal State Northridge) in the early 1960's. He was a marvelous teacher and a great man. He had a great impact for good on my life. I'm grateful to have known him.

I knew Fred Goldthorpe when I was a very little girl. He sang with my father, Ray Halverson, in a quartet during their time in the Army Air Corps. Also, Ann's mother, Jennis Farley, was my seminary teacher at Olympus High School in l959-60. My heartfelt sympathy to all the family. I would like to think that he is singing with my father again now.

We have lost two men in one blow: Number One, The best gospel doctrine teacher in the church and two, the best home teacher we ever had. Fred Goldthrope was one of a kind. I've sat through thousands of gospel doctrine classes in my life but seldom do I quote from any other than Fred's. His amazing ability to tie gospel principles to real life with some incredible memorable personal stories was masterful. His moment with his father in the SLC temple prior to his military service is one that I shall never forget. As a home teacher he probably saved my soul as a potential pride candidate when I was serving as Stake President and Moorpark Institute Director. Won't share with the world his counsel but it was on target, timely and inspired. I have never forgotten his many words of counsel, his friendship and his gift of inspirational teaching. It is a pleasure to record him as one of my most influential teachers and friend. He will be missed but never forgotten.
