Glade Southam Obituary

Glade Ivo Southam

1936-2022

St. George, UT—Glade Ivo Southam, 85, passed at home, on March 12, 2022, surrounded in love by his adoring family. He was born on October 14, 1936, in Richfield, UT to George Dee and Pearl Jensen Southam. He is married to the love of his life, Marilyn Adams. They were married on December 23, 1961. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Shortly after graduation from Spanish Fork High School, Glade enlisted in the US Army. Not long after his tour, Glade began his long and successful career in the building and housing industry.

Glade was a carpenter, general contractor, realtor, and entrepreneur. With the love and support of his wife, Marilyn, he developed his passions and talents into many successful companies including Exquisite Home Builders, Image Realty, Southam Excavating, Trico Investments, Southam Enterprises, Living Color Printing, The Draper Paper, and Pebble Farm Morgan's. He was a dreamer, an innovator, and an inspiration.

During his years in construction, Glade had been the Vice President of the Salt Lake Home Builder's Association and Board Member of the Utah State Home Builder's Association. He received recognition and awards for the great works he did prior to retirement.

Glade had many passions outside of construction. He loved his Morgan horse farm in Draper, Utah where he hosted horse shows and epic Easter parties. He was a talented horseman, winning top awards in pleasure driving and halter. Glade loved all animals, especially his favorite horse, Pied's Joy and dog, Chuck Marie. He loved everything donut and as of late, the musical "The Sound of Music". Glade's pride was his children, grandchildren and great grandchild whom he spoke of fondly.

Glade's contagious smile and exuberant "good morning" greetings will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; and children: Debra (Southam) Buchanan, St. George, UT; Brian Southam, St. George, UT; Brenda Southam, St. George, UT. Also surviving are three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two siblings: Parker Buchanan, Salt Lake City, UT; Natalia Southam, Atlanta, GA; Zachary Southam, Salt Lake City, UT; Noah Buchanan, Salt Lake City, UT; Stanley (Kim) Southam, Mayfield, UT; Karla Kay (Thomas) Hopkins, Sandy, UT. Preceded in death by son, Dustin Dix Southam; sister, Irene Billings; brother, DeVere Southam; sister, Tess Thressa Southam Pino; and brother, William Southam.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., with visitation prior from 8:30-9:30 a.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah 84770. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah. 84770.
