Harold Nate Obituary

Harold Ray Nate

1926 ~ 2022

A proud and loving son, husband and father was lost on Oct 23rd, 2022.

Harold Ray Nate was born in Richfield, Utah on July 5th, 1926 to Charles Russell Nate and Gwendolyn Cole Stucki. He is a veteran of WWII and was in the Navy from 1944 through 1946. After returning from WWII, he worked various construction jobs including a stay in Adak, Alaska and later, an oil refinery in North Salt Lake City. He was then hired at Utah Power and Light in 1950 and spent the next 34 years there before retiring in 1983. During his time at Utah Power & Light, he held various managerial positions and retired as the Midvale District Manager. He was also a councilman for Midvale City and was President of the Kiwanis Club on two occasions.

He met the love of his life and married Joy Florence Jacobs on October 14th, 1949. They would spend the next 68 years together until Joy's passing on February 17th, 2018. Together, they raised three beautiful and successful children: Shelley Faigle (John), Randy Nate (Nanette), and Charles Nate (Rachelle).

Some great adventures came with traveling the world; Joy and Harold have toured the seas with over 33 cruises and have seen extraordinary places such as The Mediterranean, Mexico, Europe and China; Harold went on a long-awaited African safari in 1985 with his daughter Shelley, as well as a Salmon fishing trip to British Columbia with his three children in 2002.

But…his greatest pleasures have been spent with his kids and grandchildren at the family ranch in Wyoming. There, Harold spent countless hours fishing the Blacks Fork River in search of Rainbow Trout with his father.

Harold is survived by his three children and their spouses, five grandchildren: Jared (Malynda), Nic (Jen), Ben (Justin), Brennan (Trista) and Anna (Devin), four great grandchildren: Alisha, Damon, Elliott (and new arrival this next January, Easton) and one great, great grandchild, Shilo.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Gwen Nate, his wife Joy Nate and grandson Codie Nate.

Our family will cherish his memory and many stories. Family and friends will celebrate his life on Wednesday, November 9th. There will be a short viewing at Goff Mortuary (8090 S. State St., Midvale) from 1:30-2:00 pm and a salute to him at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery (4900 S. Memory Ln., Holladay) at 2:30 pm.

My mom and I used to cater dinner at the Kiwanis meetings on Monday nights. I was the server so I got to meet some of the men who belonged. I remember Harold Nate. He had the most beautiful smile and was so kind. He had the presence of a true leader. Peace to the family.
