Jack Schiefer Obituary

Jack (John) Schiefer

1944 - 2021

Jack Schiefer of Salt Lake City, UT, passed Friday, May 7 at 12:10 am. Jack was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on May 16, 1944.

He had a special place in his heart for his mom Naomi, and dad Hub, was preceded in death by his wonderful sister and friend Judy (Schiefer) Riddle, grandmother Mary Conway, and his unforgettable mother-in-law, Tess Williams.

He loved food – oh, he loved good food – and spending time with his grandchildren, family, and family-in-law. Chuck-a-Rama, anyone? And he loved to laugh – the most infectious belly laugh, head back, eyes crinkled in joy – and you couldn't help but laugh with him.

Jack is survived by his patient, caring, intelligent wife and soul mate, Judy (53 years of love, family, and memories); one beautiful, talented daughter Jennifer (Schiefer) Hunter and her husband Gavin; one intelligent, intuitive friend and son John Schiefer and his wife Connie Lee. As much as he loved his children, his grandchildren were the lights of his life. He called them his four glorious grandchildren: Sophia, John, Lola, and his grandson and buddy, Milo. He was preceded in death by his loving sister and best friend Judy Riddle. He had a myriad of family spread throughout the U.S. who he would've loved to have seen more often: Steve and Brandi, Barb and Mark, Uncle Dave (recently passed) and his wife Lisa, Aunt Libby, Aunt Brenda, Aunt Debby and Ron, Uncle John and Jane, Michael, Melissa and Chris, Kim and Galen, Erin, and Darin.

Jack made many friends in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. He loved his years as an elementary school teacher working with children. I think this shone through in all the wisdom he imparted on all of us. Jack always enjoyed his time spent with his friends (Coach) Tom, Ted, Sherm and Marianne, Mark, Denise, Richard, Carl, Gary, Russell and Janelle, and the many friends, mentors, and leaders at AT&T and the many customers and community friendships developed over the years, including the many relationships and fond memories of the numerous years of supporting the vision of Robert Redford and the Sundance Institute.

Graveside services will be held for intimate family. For those who wish to pay their respects Jack, you can do so at larkinmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers, Jack's only desire would be donations to the Humane Society, http://www.utahhumane.org/ or Best Friends Animal Society, http://www.bestfriends.org/ in his and Judy's name.

Jack wishes to leave us with these words: "No matter how bad things might seem, there is always light at the end of the tunnel – ALWAYS! And never get too busy to say 'You'll be happy!', 'Thanks', 'I understand', 'Happy Birthday', 'I appreciate it', 'I'm sorry', AND: GUESS WHAT??? I love you MORE!

Hello Schiefer family. My deepest condolences on your loss of an outstanding Husband, Father, Grandfather and mentor to many individuals. Even though it has been some years since I have seen Jack, I remember his persona well. When we met at John and Connie's wedding in Portland I was struck by his large presence in a room. His laughter and immediate ability to make you feel like a best friend was evident. He graciously invited me (as an out of town attendee and not a member of the wedding party) to the rehearsal dinner he hosted at Morten's Steakhouse. I recall this event vividly and his obvious since of great joy in welcoming Connie to his family and his pride in John's choice in brides. It was a memorable event that was greatly enjoyed by all. Staying in touch with John all these years I have lived vicariously through his anecdotal stories about his Father and his extraordinary advice and insight about all things related to selling.
I join you this week in celebrating a great life lived by Jack. He would want all of us to keep our chins up and have a big smile on our faces.
Warmest regards,
David Langston

Judy, it´s been a long time since I´ve seen you, but I remember our teaching days with appreciation and fondness. I remember Jack and his fun personality and send my sympathy and love to you and your family. We lost our daughter 1 1/2 years ago, and we grieve but are happy she doesn´t suffer. Wishing you comfort as you go forward.
