James Imhoff Obituary

James Cecil Imhoff 1933 ~ 2004  OGDEN – James Cecil Imhoff, 71, died Thurs., Dec 23, 2004 at the home of his son. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and although this disease may have invaded his body, it never was able to invade his soul. Jim was born in Ontario, Oregon on August 29, 1933, a son of Belmont C. Imhoff and Angela Mesee Imhoff. He grew up the son of railroad man and went on to become one himself. He was educated in Salt Lake City, graduated from East High School in 1951, and earned an Associate Degree from Stevens Henager College in 1953. Jim enlisted in the Army Airborne during the Korean War and served his country for four years. The fact that he was a "paratrooper" still delights his grandkids. In 1957, Jim was active in the Scanlon Club, a social club for single Catholics. There he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Vogelsang. They were married six months later on August 10th at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. During his lifetime, Jim worked hard, loved to play and spent countless hours helping other people. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 44 years of service; is an honorary Lifetime Member of BPOE (Order of Elks) where he served as Exalted Ruler in 1978-79; a former Knight of Columbus and an active member of the "SHARE" program. He was an active member of Holy Family Parish and loved singing in the choir.  Jim loved all sports, hunting, traveling and fishing; his grandson, Beau, enjoyed his summer fishing trips with his grandpa. He so enjoyed his golf and poker outings with his best friends. Most of all, our dad loved people. His sense of humor was contagious and his good nature was heartwarming. He loved his children and took loving care of his grandchildren.  Jim's family would like to thank all the caregivers at Ogden Regional for the countless hours of care they bestowed upon him. We would also like to express our gratitude to LifePath Hospice for their care and devotion during our dad's last week. He left this world on his terms and with such peace and dignity. Jim's children mostly want to thank the friends of their parents. Those that they have known from Salt Lake to Ogden and around the globe, have offered so much support and love during the most difficult of times. Their dear friends in Ogden and the members of Holy Family Parish will forever be in our hearts and we will always cherish the love you have bestowed upon our parents. One could never wish to have such a life filled with absolute joy and fulfillment. Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; two sons, Bobby (Susan), and Christopher, both from Salt Lake City; daughters, Jeanne, Palm Springs, CA and Mary, Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Jake, Beau, Cait, Allegra and Christina; his brother Jackie (Theresa) and three nieces and nephews; and his Aunt Dorothy and uncle Charles, Moorehead City, NC. Preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jane, and grandchildren, Heather and Joseph (Little Joe). Holy Rosary will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7th at the Cathedral of the Madeleine (331 E. South Temple) in Salt Lake City. Friends may visit after the Rosary until 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, January 8th at Holy Family Parish (1100 E. 5550 So.) in Ogden.  Interment at a later date at Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch. Services are under the direction of Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Our father died a very happy man with absolutely no regrets. We will miss him dearly but are grateful for being able to call him "dad". Play with your grandchildren in heaven, dad. We love you. Email condolences to the family at [email protected]

Carol and Family,

Leone and I want to send our sympathy not only from us but from the entire 320th Airborne Field Artillery Bn and the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team from 1954-1956.

Jim was not only a great Trooper but was well remembered for his athletic skill on the Basket Ball Court. We have several old newspaper articles to back that up from games he played while serving in Ft Campbell, KY and Camp Wood, Japan from 1954 to 1956.

Some of my favorite memories are of Jim meeting with me at the Flying "J" Truck Stop in Ogden. We would relive and rehash old Airborne stories over a cup of coffee on my many trips across the USA.

I want you and the family to know how much it meant to me to have a brother Trooper spend time with me. I was away from my family for many days at a time and it made my trips go a lot faster and much more pleasant. Thanks Jim, I'll never forget.

Now this from all the Troopers in the Airborne World.

Dear Carol Ann and Family,
We are so sorry for your loss. We know you have many happy memories of Jim. We do also. We only saw him every 5 years at our school reunions. He just always belonged.
We are attaching a picture from our 50th reunion held in 2002. After meeting Jim for the first time we felt that most of our alumni just believed that he was part of our class. He just fit in so well.

We love you all and our prayers will always be with you.
