Joan Farr Dickson, 87, died at her home, with her husband by her side on July 9, 2014.
She was born August 1, 1926 in Ogden, Utah and was the daughter of Vern and Esther Gale Farr. Joan graduated from Ogden High School, Weber Jr. College and the University of Utah, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She taught social studies at Washington Terrace and South Junior High.
Joan married Keith Dickson on June 15, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. From this union were born seven children: Jolyn (Michael) Raleigh, West Valley City; Dr. Merrill (Judy) Dickson, Bristol, TN; Joni (Stephen) Seko, Salt Lake City; Cory (Laura) Dickson, Niwot, CO; Dr. Kyle (Susan) Dickson, Bellaire, TX; Dr. Kent (Andrea) Dickson, Flower Mound, TX; and Dr. Kurt (Catherine) Dickson, Glendale, AZ.
She served in many church callings from Ward Librarian and Den Mother to Relief Society and Primary President. She loved to read, cook, and do counted cross-stitch and was famous for her homemade pies and fresh raspberry jam. Although she always loved Ogden best, she made homes in many places, including Bountiful, El Paso, Helena, Tucson, and for over thirty years, Denver, CO, before recently moving to Holladay. Joan taught her children the importance of education and supported them in all their activities, getting them to music and dance lessons and twice-a-day swim work-outs. She always said that her greatest accomplishment was raising seven wonderful children.
She is survived by her husband; her children; their spouses; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and her brother, Vern Farr.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah with a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at the Ogden City Cemetery.
