Our beloved father, friend, neighbor, and his wife's sweetheart walked through the gate to go home on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017. Joseph Richard Clegg passed away exactly as he wished: at home, in front of the fireplace with a fire burning, peacefully, and surrounded by his children and the love of his life. During his battle with leukemia, time and time again he surprised the doctors and nurses with his resilience, strength, sense of humor, and determination to walk the hard road and do what was necessary, not what was easy. That determination was the undertone of Joey's life.
Joey was a talented architect who was ahead of his time, and he shared his passion with his business partner, Wayne, of more than 30 years. He was either a member or president of the South Jordan Historical Committee, where he was integral in bringing to life monuments, statues, memorials, and centers throughout South Jordan: for which he was widely recognized.
Joey spent his time working in his yard and making improvements to the home he built with his father. He loved going to the movies with his best friend Dick. He served as a scoutmaster with his dear friend, Craig, for many years. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and traveling with his sweetheart, as long as she was driving, as he would easily get lost.
Joey had a deep, abiding, unshakeable love for the Lord. After he served a mission to Edinburgh, Scotland, he volunteered for the Vietnam War because it was the right thing to do. Between his mission and Vietnam, his testimony flourished. He was a prolific writer and a deep thinker, often expressing his carefully worded testimony to all. Among other callings, he cherished serving in the Jordan River Temple for many years, as he had countless precious experiences there. He looked forward to serving there once renovations were complete. Now he looks forward to serving there from the other side.
Joseph (Joey) Richard Clegg was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Clegg; mother, Desma Michelle Crawford Clegg; brother, Lyle Clegg; sister Shirley Dennis; and son-in-law, William (Billy) L. Sullivan. He is survived by his sweetheart of 39 years, Tanya N. Clegg; and children: Joseph Scott Clegg; Michelle "Kyoko" (Greg) Doyle; Melissa Dawn Clegg Sullivan; Kimberly Ann (John) Emett; and Heather Brittany (Joe) Barlow. Joey and Tanya have 10 grandchildren whom they adore.
Joey and Tanya would be honored to invite you to celebrate him on October 5th between 6:00pm to 7:30pm and to the funeral on October 6th at 11:00am at the River Ridge Stake Center on 10168 South 1100 West South Jordan, UT 84095
