It is with deep sorrow that I pay my respects to Joey. Joey was one of the 1st Store Directors that made an impact on my career & life. Over 30 years I have related stories regarding Joey's friendship, mentorship & leadership that has left an impact on great leaders Joey never knew. Joey had a great sense of humor that he used quite often to get his message across. His smile showed that he loved people & wanted them to succeed. Joey thank you for your guidance.
Karlene, Michele & JR I'm truly sorry for your loss. Joey was one of the "GREAT" ones. He will be missed, but his legacy will endure. My thoughts, prayers & love be with you.

I am so very sorry for the Katter family's loss. Joey was my brother's best friend growing up in SLC, and we have very fond memories of the time he spent at our home, at the Katter pizzaria, and just growing up doing kid's stuff like playing in their band out in our carport, taboganning and just hanging out in our basement.
So very sorry that he has been taken so young for he was a good and kind man who left behind so many with happy memories. May his entire family be comforted by the good that he did in life, and may they find peace that they will all be together some day soon. RIP Joey.

I just happened to look up Joey on Facebook and saw that he passed away. Joey and I were best friends and we did lots of things together in jr. hight and high school. I had quite an experience working in the kitchen with Joey at the Latin Quarter and also joes pizzeria. His dad used to introduce me as his favorite adopted son. I really liked the whole family, Joanne, Johnny, George and even flat-nose. I am sorry Joey is gone, I have thought of him often, memories of my youth, he and his family was part of my life and I can say truly that family is awesome. Rest in peace best friend,
Peter Pikulin, (Lake Tapps, Wa)

I have to say Joe always inspired and pushed you to be your best...Joe loved fishing. Joe loved his family and friends. I have to say he was the best friend I ever had, you can talk to him about anything he always listened and offered some advice...He looked life in the eyes and had fun at the same time. He also was a card shark. Joe touched so many people in his supervisor jobs...He has helped so many people. Joe never judged just cared always. I also got to say he had a work ethic like no other...and stubborn was his middle name, but for the good of everyone. With his passing I am sure he would never want anyone to cry or be sad..but always think of the good times..and make better ones in all our future. To Karleen he will always be in your heart. deepest sympathy.

I knew Joe for 5 years at Kmart. He was a very humorous and kind boss. The best boss I ever had. I truly will miss Joe at Kmart. Always telling everyone when they walk through the front doors "Get to work!" He had a special nickname for me since i speak Spanish..he would always call me "Manana" the Spanish term for tomorrow, mostly cause my last name started with a m I suppose. I'm gonna miss him walking up to me saying "Mananas in charge!" with his big goofy smile that even if I was having a bad day made me smile. He was a stubborn man and didn't like to show any weakness to his employees.
He cared about all of us with his big heart. I am very saddened with his passing. I remember walking in to work the day after he went to the hospital and heard only that he went to the hospital and I assumed he was OK. I remember thinking when they told me he was in the hospital "Man I bet Joe is sitting in the hospital grumpy right now wanting to get back to work!"
Death leaves a heart ache no one can heal, Love and friendship leave a memory no one can steal. To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die. Memory is a gift from God which death cannot destroy.
Joe's actions inspired others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more....he truly was a leader! God bless his family. I am so sorry for your loss.

I met Joe at Kmart in Everett, WA in 2011. He was a great boss and a good friend. I left the company in June and I have all those memories and most of them includes him and his humor. I send my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. He will be gone but never forgotten. He truly cared for all of his employee's and their well-being. This is so sad and Joe "the pepsi is on me next time"..
