Joey Torres Obituary

In Loving Memory
Born Sept. 13, 1982 in Torrance, CA, to Robin Reid and Joseph Torres, Joey would spend most of his life on the move. Spending his youth in Texas, Pennsylvania, Utah and Minnesota, Joey adapted to new cities through his passionate love of sports.
Although he would eventually become a Twins, Jazz, Flyers, Sounders and Spain national soccer fan, it was in Williamsport, PA that Joey found his first love - the Philadelphia Eagles.
Joey graduated from Breckenridge High School in 2000. Raised a USC fan, Joey would also adopt the Utah Utes and NDSU Bison as his other college teams. While he would have made a natural statistician, announcer or anchor, the stands and tailgates were the closest Joey would come to going to college.
As an adult, Joey moved back and forth between Utah and North Dakota. During his time in Salt Lake City Joey met the second love of his life, his dog, a red heeler, pharaoh hound mix he named Philly. Joey was rarely seen without Philly by his side. An avid teacher, he trained her to do a number of tricks and enjoyed showing off his "baby" both in person and via video.
Joey had an unparalleled capacity for love and forgiveness that was nothing short of divine. He adored his nieces and nephews and had just recently begun re-connecting with various parts of his extended family through the internet. Joey beamed with pride sharing stories and pictures about his family and friends.
Majority of Joey's adult life was spent on one side of the bar or the other; cracking jokes, offering a shoulder to cry on or going that extra mile to make even the most mundane outing unique and special. It was behind the bar at the Bowler in the fall of 2013 where Joey met the last love of his life Heather. Even though it was the opposite direction from Philadelphia where he longed to be, Joey followed his heart and the three of them relocated to Seattle in March 2014.
While Joey would give you the shirt off his back or the last dime in his pocket without a second thought, his refusal of help from others is ultimately what lead to his premature death at 34. Joey Torres lost his battle with alcoholism on Nov. 23, 2016.
Joey is survived by his fiancee Heather Ehrichs Angell, his mother Robin Reid, his father Joseph (Patricia) Torres, his brother Jeff (Rachell) Reid, his sister Janna Knox, step-brothers Greg (Rachel) Reid, Jeff (Dawn) Reid, Luke (Beth) Reid, step-sister Cydne Shull, nieces Avery, Lauren, and Maia, nephews Chance, Owen, Carter, McKay, Wiley and Krew, a step niece Autumn, step nephew Caiden and his dog Philly.
Joey was preceded in death by his step-fathers John W. Reid and Steven G. Orchard.
Celebrations of Joey's life will be held in Salt Lake City Dec. 17, 3 p.m. Prayer service Draper church 11420 S 700 W Draper UT Sat. and memorial at Cruzer's Saloon following.
Joey's final resting place will be Philadelphia, date to coincide with the first Eagles game of the 2017 season.
