Keona Jones Obituary

1997 ~ 2017
Keona Jones, 20, left her earthly home Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
Keona was born March 18th, 1997 to Thomas and Athena Jones. She was a beautiful tenor and loved music. You could always hear her humming and singing. She also collected stuffed animals - the bigger the better.
Keona loved practical jokes, pranks, and puns - the good and especially the bad. She loved video games and was amazing at building computers. She was everyone's "P.C. guru" and go to girl. She attended East Hollywood High School in West Valley, Utah.
After transitioning from Ben to Keona she proudly graduated high school in 2015. She loved her fellow man. If you had a hurt or a problem, she was always there to listen - day or night, no matter if you were her bestie or an almost stranger. Her superpower was the ability to instantly make friends wherever she went.
Keona was a joy and a light in this world that seemed to burn extra brightly. That light went out much too soon for her young life. She made a great difference to those who knew her, and her influence continues like the ripples on water.
Memorial celebration of Life services for Keona Jones will be held Friday, 4/14 at noon, with a visitation time at 10:30 am. Services will be at the First Baptist Church of Salt Lake City on 777 South 1300 East. The family requests attendees wear bright colorful clothing or 'cat' shirts.
Keona is survived by her parents - Tom and Athena, by her brothers Chris, Sam with wife Carissa, and Alex. Her niece whom she adored baby Keyara Porter, and Xeus with husband Josh Gauna. Also surviving her are her grandparents - Nana (Gayel), Grandpa Bob and Grandma Gloria as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Rest and be at peace, sweet daughter…

A beautiful soul. It was long ago, but I saw her light shine, and it was bright and lovely. Holding space for you in your heartache at her loss.

Tom, Athena, and family,

Our hearts are broken to hear of your loss. Keona was such an amazing person. Karalyn's and EJ (formerly Emily) spoke of her often and with such joy. She has touch so many with her decision to embrace who she truly was. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Keona was a good person, and a better friend. Regardless of how she felt inside she would go out of her way to make you feel better, and even use the small amount of money she had and spend it on others for their happiness. She was selfless, kind, and gentle in a way no one else is.
May she rest easy, free of her burdens.

I remember when Benny (as we said at the time) was about 5 and sitting behind me at church. Chris and Sam were in my class in Primary and sitting with me in Sacrament Meeting. Ben looked at me with big eyes and a full heart and asked, "Will I, Will I, Will I ever be in your Primary Class?" Sure enough about 4 years later Ben (as I had to learn to say then) was finally in my class. One of my sweetest memories of him. I'd like to think his prayer was answered. He was so kind and tender-hearted and a blessing to those who knew him. I feel his loss even all these miles away and years later.
Praying you can find comfort and peace at this time.
Love,
JaNae

We are better people from knowing Keona. I remember how she laughed. I hope that her memory will bring you solace in the future. I know the loss is almost unbearable today. So many people loved her and love you. A whole community is here to support and love you.

Though sadly we never got the opportunity to meet your sweet Keona, after reading her obituary it is clear that she had such a beautiful soul and an amazingly supportive family. Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
