Mary Carman Obituary

Mary Jane Carman

1935-2025

Salt Lake City, Utah Mary Jane (Garrick) Carman of Salt Lake City, Utah, Passed peacefully on Saturday October 4, 2025.

Mary was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 13th 1935 to Arthur E. and Flossy Garrick. She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City. She married her childhood sweetheart Richard Edward Carman for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 13th 1956.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother who raised a beautiful family of four and later worked as the Business Administrator at Carman Refrigeration Inc, an HVACR contracting company that was started by her husband and his father. She led an incredibly full life that included service to both community and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mary held leadership roles in the PTA in her children's elementary, junior high and high schools including PTA president. Mary faithfully served many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over the years in her Poplar Grove Ward. Mary was a devoted member of the church and loved the gospel.

Mary enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life and had a tremendous passion for all things related to her family, the community and the arts. Her hobbies included crafting, painting, and sewing projects of all kinds over the years. She developed a particular interest in creating amazing, beautiful quilts. She made keepsake quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was very active in her Poplar Grove Ward social activities where with her husband Richard they organized and supported; ward Road Show plays, fund raisers for the ward, youth/scout groups and holiday activities. Mary and Richard thoroughly enjoyed the arts and were season tickets holders for the Utah Symphony, Pioneer Memorial Theater and the Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City. Mary's love for the arts was shared and fostered with her children by inviting them to many of the performances and ensuring they engaged in school arts programs. Mary's home was filled with the results of her cherished hobbies. Above all, Mary loved and prized beyond measure, spending time with family and friends.
