I am sad to hear that Melissa passed away. I was a patient of her at the Maternal Center at St Marks, she was a great and friendly Doctor! My thoughts are with her family and her dogs.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Melissa briefly before her passing. Her work, and the impact she had on our patients and us at CompHealth, will not be forgotten.

To Melissa's family, I am so saddened to hear of her passing. Melissa did her fellowship at MetroHealth at the same time I did my residency here. She was so kind, in particular at the time I lost my sister suddenly during my intern year. She hardly knew me at the time, yet came to my sister's funeral/burial.I know how much it means to have the support of even strangers during a difficult time, and hope that you are comforted by the words of the many people she touched from far away.

I am very saddened by the news of Melissa's passing. She was an excellent, caring physician with an inquisitive mind. While she was with us to learn and engage in research, she was most noted for her empathy and care for her patients. We walked out of our interview that morning of 9/11 and witness the attack together, making it the most memorable of all my interviews; but she was memorable all the more for her endearing qualities. It was a pleasure and an honor to have participated in her training.

Melissa worked with me at Vancouver Clinic, in Vancouver Washington. She touched my life and we became friends. I will miss her terribly. She had an amazing bed side manner with our patients and as sick as she was she never let it get in the way. Her life was cut way to short. She will be in my memories forever.

Dr. Herbst, I am very sorry for your and your family's loss. I was Mel's secretary when she was in her Fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Cente in Cleveland. I remember the day that she came for her interview it was 9/11 and after the horrible acts on that day, she was unable to fly out and I had to scramble to find her a hotel. She was a very caring and kind person with a very big heart. I know she was very close to her mother and am comforted by the fact that they are now together (shopping no doubt). She will be truly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

I am so very very sad to hear of the passing of Melissa. I got to know her when she joined the staff at St Marks's Hospital and was drawn to her quiet gentle manner. She graciously entertained us at her home and I will always remember her warmth and friendship. She fought her illness with such bravery and her passing leaves a huge void in the lives of her family, friends, and patients. She was a caring compassionate person, and I am very pleased to have known her. My deepest sympathy to her father and brother and extended family. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.

Melissa is a great long time friend. She and I spent a lot of our younger years being Michael Jackson and Duran Duran groupies. She and I lost touch for a long time when she moved away to Louisiana, but I cherish our friendship from our earlier years. God be with you Melissa till we meet again!

Melissa was a wounderful Doctor to work with. I'm really going to miss her. I use to do ballet poses while I was waiting for her to come out of a room and she would smile and giggle everytime she came out of the room. She will truely be missed.

We will always remember Melissa from her childhood days as a close neighbor and friend of our daughter Valerie. She spent a lot of time at our home and Valerie enjoyed being at the Herbst residence. So sorry for your loss, John. May you be comforted in knowing all the good Melissa did throughout her too brief time here. I truly believe she is now in the loving arms of her mother, Diana.

Regretfully, we will not be in town for Melissa's service but you and your family will be in our thoughts.

May God Bless!
