Marti and I are are sad to see an old friend pass on. We are very happy, however, to have known Russ and enjoyed our friendship through the years. We look back with happiness to those times he was here in our town and was able to join us celebrating various holidays. I can remember a Thanksgiving or two that we had the pleasure of his company with our family. He will be missed in our hearts and our future.

I was saddened to learn of Russ’s passing away with the dawn of the New Year, but realize we are much encouraged that he has helped us make many great friends with the ARES group, for whom he was a great representative.

The pioneer members of the SaltLake Peaks Amateur Radio Club (SPARC-1994) formed an alliance with ARES in the early years with Russ amongst others. Russ’s efforts and friendship has helped inspire our Club much to fulfill the obligations, with use of ARES equipment, and their active participation at events in latter years with mutual respect. Notably, we will miss Russ’s presence dearly at future events, and will be ‘Remembered’.

On behalf of the SaltLake Peaks Amateur Radio Club I wish to offer our condolences and sympathies to the family and to all friends at ARES.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Shirley,Rockne and Paul. Mary and I have fond memories of the days of carpools, camping, wood cutting and all of the good times we enjoyed together both at work and the numerous outings in the mountains. Russ was a true friend and companion and may these memories bring you comfort at this time of sorrow.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. I shall always remember the good times with Russ: the days at work at the FAA; the days in the mountains camping and cutting wood and at a much younger age--the days skiing. I cherish our friendship and shall never forget the times we spent together especially when we went out to dinners and the theater.
