Mitchell Carey Obituary

Sept. 4, 1987 ~ Sept. 25, 2012
Mitchell Cameron Carey returned to the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was greeted by many loved ones. Mitch was good with children because he was a child at heart. He loved Disney movies and being playful. His wife, Shantel, was the love of his life and inspired him to succeed in all he did. He loved spending time with his family and cherished his Christian family at The Door.
He grew up playing football and baseball and was a proud boxer at the Gene Fullmer Gym. Mitchell was a starting varsity lineman all four years at CHHS. One of his many favorite shows was the History Channel; he wanted to be a history teacher. Mitch was accepting of all people. He was destined to help others through hardship and recovery by compassionately sharing his experiences.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Shantel, who will be forever watched over by her special guardian angel. ITUMCST4EVER. Also survived by his parents, Margott and Joe Carey, siblings, Joe Jr.(Rachel) and Madison Carey, in-laws, Pernell and Pamela Thomas, Josh (McKell) Thomas, nieces MaKaylee and Kylee, nephew Tristyn and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Southside Church of Christ 3138 W. 7000 S, W. Jordan Tuesday October 2nd at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call Monday October 1st 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers an account has been set up at Cyprus CU under Mitchell Carey. Directors Independent Funeral Service

I still think of you frequently and my heart hurts knowing you are not with us. Living around the corner from Shantels parents keeps you in my thoughts. I always considered you to be one of my sons. You were a great friend to my son Brandon McGee. I miss you and always will.

Mitch, you had my heart when you told uncle Rick that I was "hot"... But you my heartful solider did not stop there... I think it was shortly after or even before, you had written a letter to Tristan your newest cousin ... To welcome him to your family. Mitch you were no more than 11 years old... It melted my heart then to know you had such a heart. Then many years later, you came to stay with us after your graduation, with intentions to hang with Tris, but found your new fan club leader Trenton, you made him feel so incredibly special..he wanted to sleep out in the living room with you... I recall waking up to Trent on the couch and you on the floor. Couldn't get close enough to you...he felt your power and wore it as it were his at 8
yrs old you made quite an impression, and you were ever so gracious in answering his 1 million questions.. About everything, never once loosing patience. When you went to the Angels game, you bought Trent a cap... Like the real fans had ...he's kept it even tho oh too small now. When Trenton had to write about who he looked up to in 5 th grade... He wrote it about his cousin Mitch....
It's the true hearts that inspire children...those who never loose sight of the people they will be ... Mitch you have that heart . Our world needs more....apparently Your work was done here.. Still all you touched will like the ripple effect..... Touch another...and another.....and keeps on going. We love you. And are grateful to have been in your path, further part of your family how lucky are we?
Joe, Margott, Maddie, Joey and dear Shantel.... Prayers ..and more Prayers....love surrounds you... 24 /7. On earth and from heaven

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mitch, but I do know many in the Carey family. My heart goes out to all of you...my dear friend Jeanne has shared so many colorful family stories, and I've always admired the close family ties you have. Keep those during this difficult time, and trust God...he'll take care of Mitch in Heaven and all of you still here on Earth.

Mitchy ~

My sweet little cousin. You had the most infectious smile and the biggest and best hugs. Our hearts are broken, but know that you are finally at peace. I know Grandma Irene and Grandpa Richard are holding you close and you are looking down on us.
I remember the days when you would play with your best friend in the entire world, your big brother Joey. You called it the “Joey and Mitchell Show”. Oh, how you looked up to him and wanted to do everything he did. The two of you could get into a lot of mischief, but had the best time. A bond between brothers can never be broken. Your dad was your biggest fan and cheerleader and you loved to make him proud and he is. You were your mom's little snuggle bug. You loved being in her arms and would make her smile so big, but you also had this way of getting into things. Your humor and smile would make us forget what you had done. When your baby sister Madison was born you were so excited to be a big brother. You told me that you were going to be the best big brother ever because you had the best brother. Your dad, Joey and yourself made sure that no harm would ever come to that sweet girl. You had a wonderful protective and helpful nature. You would do anything for anyone, even without being asked.
Your many Aunts and Uncles loved you dearly. You even shared a birthday with one. Our group of 16 cousins is a very fun and crazy group. We will forever have a void where you should be. You are a special part of us. We all might live far apart, but there isn't a day when the Carey family doesn't think of each other.
As we grieve that you are no longer here on earth with us, we are rejoicing that you are happy, at peace and watching over all of us. I promise that I will do my best to watch out for our family. I love you sweet boy!!

What a great kid Mitch was. I will never forget his smile and happy demeanor. He hung out at our house with Nicki, Sean, and Andy. I remember him lifting weights and all the boys watching in amazement because he was so strong, so young! We love him dearly and he will be missed. So sorry for his wife and family. I know your hearts are broken. May God bless you forever with his spirit and memory.

Dear Margott - There are no words to say how sorry I am you have lost your dear son, Mitch. Life seems to change on a dime and there's not alot you can do about it. I know from my own experience what it's like to lose a son. I recall, I had the pleasure of meeting Mitch when he came into the office, years ago, and his smile really does say it all. May he keep that big smile goin' on for ever and ever - now in Heaven and never forgotten here on Earth. My heart hugs go out to you and Joe, Joey and Maddy. Shantel, I have not had the pleasure of meeting you, but my prayers are with you through all of this - Bless your heart. I am so sorry for your loss. God bless you all. Take care, Beckie Hepworth

Mitchy ~ My dear sweet baby cousin with the biggest smile and best hugs. Our family is heartbroken but rejoicing in the fact that you are finally at peace and hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa Carey. I remember you as young boy playing sports and making me laugh while you did the "Joey and Mitchell Show" with your best friend in the whole world ~ your big brother Joey. A bond between brothers that can never be broken even in death. I know your dad was your biggest fan and cheerleader and loves you so much. You were your moms little snuggle bug ~ and always had a way to make her laugh ~ especially when you would get into trouble. You could make any of us laugh in a moment. I especially know how much you loved your little sister Madison. You were over the moon when you became the big brother because you said you had the best big brother ever and knew what you needed to do. You even told me you would "take on" anyone who would try and hurt her. You had such a sweet and helpful spirit about you. You were very protective of your parents, siblings, uncles and aunts. You are an awesome cousin ~ one of many and there will always be a void where you should be. Our hearts will never be the same, but we know you are watching over all of us and we will be protecting us. I promise I will do my best here. Give Grandma and Grandpa Carey your famous hugs from all of us. I love you sweet boy!!

I can't begin to express my sorrow for your loss. My heart is breaking for your entire family. Marg, besides being a sweet kid, I feel I knew Mitch from your many stories of his accomplishments (with a little mischief thrown in). You're all in my prayers.

Much love,

Mitch, You will always be my Birthday Buddy, a terrific nephew and a great son and brother. When I think of you I always remember your big smile and how your Grandma would love to get hugs from you. She said you were the best hugger there ever was, and I bet she is enjoying those hugs now. We will all miss you, and you will forever be in our hearts.

I've known Mitch since he was 8 years old for he and Brandon were the best of friends and played football together. I had the distint honor of being an assistant coach for him the last year that he played Ute Football and what an honor it was. I'll never forget that year, not only for it being an undefeated championship season, but for how close Mitch and all the other palyers became and how well they all worked together. Mitch you were the hardest working kid that I've ever coached. I'm 100% certain that the big guy in the sky could really use your infectious smile, your humor, and your work ethic. I'm sure you are probably right now in a friendly challenge of push ups or sprints with someone while the big guy blows the whistle. Rest in peace my friend, we're going to miss you.
