Patsy Bond Obituary

Patsy Ann Rippy Bond
Jan 24, 1948 ~ Dec 3, 2019
Born Jan.24,1948 in Oklahoma City, OK. and raised by her loving grandmother Dixie Walton (Niney) in Shawnee, OK., she left this earthly existence on Dec. 3, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with health issues. Patsy was an accomplished pianist and also played the violin, but one of her many talents was on the tennis court. Attending Shawnee High School, she won 4 state singles championships in a row and received the Shawnee High School "Athlete of the Year" award. Moving on to Odessa Jr. College, in 1967, in her freshman year she won the U.S.L.T.A. National Singles Intercollegiate Championships, was in the National Honor Society and was selected for American Junior College's "Who's Who". That same year she won a Gold Medal in doubles and a silver medal in singles at the Pan America Games in Winnipeg, Canada. She also represented the United States in the Pre-Olympics Championships held in Guadalajara, Mexico and won a gold medal in doubles. She then attended the University of Texas at El Paso on a full ride scholarship where she played number 1 in singles. Patsy competed nationally and during her tennis career won 5 National Doubles Championships. She was inducted into the Oklahoma District Tennis Association's HALL OF FAME, and the U.S. Tennis Hall of Fame. Graduating with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education, she taught 3rd grade at Beehive Elementary in the Granite School District in West Valley City where her students loved her as much as she loved them. Patsy was married to Larry Reid, later divorced. She then met and married Kenneth. Patsy leaves behind her husband, her daughters, Becky and Karen, one step daughter, Kasie, two step sons Kevin and Kelly, and ten grandchildren. Preceded in death by her son Christopher, step daughter Kristi, her mother and father and her beloved "Niney". Her loving and caring spirit will be greatly missed by her husband, her family, the many friends she has made on her walks, and her two Shelties, Rusty and Maddie, We would like to express our thanks to the caring people at Aspen Ridge Rehabilitation, and the nurses and doctors at the Alta View Emergency Department and the Intermountain Medical Center. As Patsy wished, there will be no funeral held but a celebration of life will be held in the future. Any donations should be made in her name to the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake or the Billy Graham Evangelical Association

I had the good fortune of playing match against Patsy when I was in Junior High School in my home town of Ada, Oklahoma. Her first serve was like a tennis ball being shot out of a rocket. Needless to say I lost the match, but I knew even then that she was destined for tennis greatnesses. I am so very sorry to read of her passing.

Patsy was a Shawnee Star in more ways than just being an outstanding tennis player. She also was very pretty and very nice. And she was the best typist at Shawnee High! Before one of our bigger SHS Class Reunions, I was helping locate classmates, update our records, and send out invitations. During a very enjoyable phone conversation with Patsy, I told her she was "Our Sweet Little Blonde Angel". I could hear the smile on her face when she replied that she'd never been called an Angel before! She was one of the most special people to attend Shawnee High School--ever, and I am fortunate to have known her. I cannot tell you how sad the news of her passing makes me feel. My deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. May she Rest in Peace, until we meet again.

I was lucky enough to build a home for Patsy and Kenneth in Southern Utah a few years ago. My heart aches for Ken at this loss. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. I'm sure she will be sorely missed by many and excitedly embraced by many loved ones on the other side that have gone on before here. Sad partings and happy reunions. May the Lord bless and comfort us all in this time of temporary loss and separation. Thank you Patsy for you wonderful life that blessed so many.

Condolences from Oklahoma. Patsy came for a couple of visits and stayed with my mom. We told old stories of Her days in Shawnee, her old tennis coach Paul Duffield, and her accomplishments. She was a sweet lady.

I remember this sweet young girl. We grew up in the same neighborhood. Her cousin Judy was my close friend. Patsy overcame many obstacles in her life, and accomplished many things. My sympathies to her loved ones.

I was fortunate enough to take tennis lessons from Patsy in Shawnee the summer of 1969. She taught me so much, and was such a lovely person. Because of the love of tennis she instilled in me, I continued to play until an injury sidelined me when I was 60.
My condolences to her family. Gone too soon. But know she touched the lives of many in a very positive way.
