Paul Hales Obituary

1966 ~ 2016
Paul D. Hales, age 50, passed away peacefully in his home in Carson City, NV on October 29, 2016 due to complications of pneumonia. Born on August 21, 1966 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jan Dean Hales and Marilyn Snelson Hales, he is the second of four children.
Paul's greatest love was his work in law enforcement. Paul graduated top of his class from the Police Academy and began his career in American Fork working for the Attorney General in Undercover Narcotics. He moved to the West Jordan Police Department and served as a patrol officer, volunteer firefighter, motorcycle officer (motor unit) and SWAT team. Furthering his career, he accepted a job as a Trooper with the Nevada Highway Patrol. After several years of service, Paul then accepted an assignment with the Nevada Department of Public Safety's Investigation Division (NDI). As a Detective at NDI, Paul's assignments included Major Crimes, narcotics and the Fusion Center. He was involved in many undercover narcotic investigations, special investigations and high profile cases. Paul's current assignment was as a Task Force Officer (Special Deputy US Marshal) at the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force. Paul was a well-loved public servant who was tireless in his commitment of service to others.
Paul had a kind and compassionate heart and loved to laugh. His big hugs and playful teasing made him a joy to be around. He loved getting to know people and had a special talent for putting everyone at ease. Paul loved dogs. His Boxers - Harley, Taz, Zeus and Athena meant the world to him. Paul enjoyed boating, motorcycling, collecting Star Wars paraphernalia, keeping his home, truck and yard immaculate, vacationing in Maui, cheering for the Raiders and the Nevada Wolfpack and watching NASCAR. Some of Paul's most valued training includes teaching tactical Nerf Gun skills to his nieces and nephews, testing Tasers on his brothers, and adding love and humor to any situation. Paul is a dearly loved son, brother, uncle and friend. He is deeply missed and always will be.
Paul is survived by his loving parents Jan and Marilyn, siblings Scott (Jill), Ron (Becky), Susan (Tim), nine cherished nieces and nephews and his dear friend Shannon (Alex).

So very sorry to hear of this. i first met Paul when I started working for West Jordan PD and we quickly became good friends. Paul was always bright, had a smile, and kept us laughing. I was lucky enough to have trips with him and his family (lake powell) where we all had days of swimming, evenings on the wave runners, and nights of laughter and good food.
Paul and i had a lot in common and spent many days collecting star wars figures, building and racing remote control cars, and four wheeling in moab. Paul was always up to do something and you always had fun when you were around him. I lost touch with Paul when he moved to Nevada but did not need the contact to keep the fun memories in my mind. It sounds like he kept busy and made a lot of other people very happy just by being around them.
I am ver sorry I could not attend the service ( now in north carolina) but did everything I could to pass the news to friends and co workers. God bless to Paul and the hales family. I will always remember Paul and in time the hurt will replace itself with fond memories. I will be donating locally to charity in the name of Paul, i know he would like this. Your friend always, Rick Schaffnit

So sorry to hear of Paul's passing. I worked with him at West Jordan Police a long time ago. He always came back here when we lost a brother to pay his respects and support our officers. Great guy, great loss.

Blessings and love to his family.
