Phyllis Noonan Obituary

Phyllis G. Noonan

1932 ~ 2021

On Friday, August 27, 2021, Phyllis Noonan, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 89 in Heber City, Utah.

Phyl was born January 9, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa, to Francis and Gertrude Collins. In 1952, Phyl graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Davenport, Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree. After just six months in the program, Phyl was asked to join the faculty as a teaching assistant and to teach incoming nursing students. She enjoyed teaching and helping others. She completed her studies while also caring for her ailing parents. Phyl promised her mom and dad she would continue with her education. She kept that promise and went on to earn her degree, graduating as a Registered Nurse from St. Ambrose College in Davenport in 1954. There she met Tom Noonan, who would become her husband and partner in life.

Phyl and Tom moved to Saint Louis, Missouri, where he continued his medical training and she worked as a nurse in the pediatric ward at a local hospital. They moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1957, where they lived and raised their family, which grew to four children, several dogs and countless friends.

While Phyl committed herself to raising her family, she never lost her love of nursing. For many years, she volunteered weekly at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City. She was active in many community organizations and had a deep love for the arts. When not chasing dogs or children, she could be found reading, attending the symphony, volunteering at the Park City Arts Festival, skiing with Tom and the kids, or toasting a bottle of wine.

She enjoyed the outdoors … and eating as much popcorn as possible. The heart and soul of the Noonan family, Phyl was cherished by her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, and her granddogs. She loved deeply and taught her children to work hard, celebrate family and never forget to laugh. Indeed, her giggle got her out of a lot of tight spots. While she is deeply missed, we celebrate her reunion with Tom and with her beloved parents. Phyl is survived by her children and their spouses: Kathy & John O'Keeffe; Mary Noonan & Joe Dunbeck; Mo & Jim Bischof and Don Noonan & Kyle Rocheleau, as well as their families.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Phyl and Tom's 66th wedding anniversary - May 26, 2022, 11:00am, Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, 5 South 100 West, Heber City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, raise a glass of wine. Enjoy a bowl of popcorn. Laugh with others.
