Our closest association with Richard came during the final months of Janice's life. We visited often in their home where we learned first hand of their love for each other, their family, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. After she passed, he came often to our home to share our evening meal, several times contributing some of his favorite Mexican cuisine. We loved them both and have missed Richard since our wards were realigned and we eventually moved out of the area. Our love and condolences reach out to family and friends who will miss his joyful love of the Savior.

I just finished watching the recordings of Richard’s funeral. It was a joy to see the picture tribute, and I give compliments to whoever took the time and care to put that together. It was also a pleasure to learn more about Richard’s life, listening to the talks and comments that were given. Sometimes people can exaggerate the qualities of a person who has passed. But based on my limited interactions with Richard, I’m confident that everything shared was accurate. I only had the occasional chance to talk to him at family gatherings such as a wedding. Yet he always made me feel like a long-time friend and showed caring and interest in my life. Other members of my family have mentioned this as well, and we will miss his kind spirit. I hope you will all find peace in your lives as you remember his goodness.

It was a real treat to know Richard Gomez! I wholeheartedly agree with the accolades mentioned in the obituary, such as his desire for fairness, his kindness, and his playful sense of humor. He was committed to good principles. He was humble and didn’t take himself too seriously. He was a good dad. He will be very missed!

Richard was always a tease. He could always make me smile and giggle. I learned the Mexican culture with the Gomez family. I loved watching his children and later grandchildren perform Mexican Folklorico and I’ll never forget being Richard’s dance partner, on occasion, when he taught the audiences a dance. He always had a hug for me and would stop by occasionally just to visit us and remind us he loved us. He will always be my 2nd dad. My children loved their Grandpa, I loved him too and we will miss him very much.

Mr. Richard Gomez was my supervisor and dear friend. I started working for him in 1993 at the Utah State Office of Education in the Educational Equity Department. Richard helped bring REACH (Respecting Ethnic and Cultural Heritage) Training to Utah. It was a blessing and honor to do REACH training with Richard and other REACH Trainers throughout the State of Utah. My husband Ed and I have many fond memories of Richard. Last year Richard and his brother David invited us to go to the finest and largest Family History Library which is located in Salt Lake City Utah. They helped us research our family genealogy. Afterwards, they took us to lunch at an outstanding Mexican Restaurant. We had so much fun! Richard and David asked us where they could go to find good Soul Food. Ed and I looked at each other, laughed and said, “Easy Ed’s Soul Food Restaurant!” We invited Richard and David to our home for dinner with our family. We had an outstanding time! We love you Richard, we will miss you dear friend! Love, Ed & Jackie Thompson
