Richard Thompson Obituary

Richard G. Thompson "Poppy" Our loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend passed away December 30, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. Richard was born in Southgate, CA, September 8, 1942 to Richard and June Thompson. He met the love of his life, Patty Kim Ney in 1973. They married in 1977 and were later sealed in the Provo Temple. Richard served in the U.S. Army and National Guard and was stationed in Germany. He worked construction for many years, also worked for Geneva Steel, but the job he loved the most was driving semi trucks. Richard loved his family and we will remember many fishing and camping trips that we all shared. He gave his family a great love of the mountains. His greatest joys were his grandkids. He made sure that everyone in the family had a nickname when they were born. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his amazing sense of humor and being the rock in our family. He kept us all laughing even in his final months. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Kim; children: Ryan (Kimi), Melissa (Tony), Brad; grandkids: Destiny, Bailey, Constance, Ethan and a baby girl due in March; his father and stepmother, Richard A. and Maureen Thompson; sister, Jeanne Anderson, many nieces and nephews, also Bill and Ludean Bishop. He was preceded in death by his son, Justin Thompson and mother, June Davis Thompson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Kolob 1st Ward, 1230 S. 500 E., Springville, UT. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. We would like to thank Dr. William Alward, Dr. James Rose, UCNS and members of the Kolob 1st Ward for their love, care and friendship for Richard. Hi, I am Richard's cousin, Rhea (Warner) Fugal. I used to love spending summers in Milford enjoying the company of Aunt June and Uncle Dick and playing with Jeannie and Richard. You wouldn't believe how many "funny books" they had under the bed -- boxes! I loved to lay on the lawn at night and listen as Dick and Richard played guitars and sang harmony on the front porch. Richard was a fun cousin and was always doing funny things to make us laugh. My love to Dick and Jeannie and thanks for all of the wonderful memories. I'm sure Aunt June has her (always) welcoming arms around him right now.
Love Rhea

Richard was one of the graduating class of 1960 from Milford Utah. I remember Richard as fun loving and kind hearted and he always had a smile. Our class was close knit, and Richard and wife attended many of our class reunions. You will be missed Richard. Bless your family. Sallie (Williams) Chaffin-Tomlinson.

I am sure that none of you will know who I am but I used to babysit Richard and Jeanne when we all lived in Milford, Utah as neighbors. He was such a cute little blonde guy running around just like he was as big as his daddy. His sister, Jeanne, was my little doll and later I named my little blonde baby after her. I wish that we could have kept in touch with them in our later years as the Thompson family was a big part of my life. Thank you, Dick and Jeanne for being such a good part of my life. I loved you all. June was such a special lady. Sorry about your loss but so glad that you have the comfort of knowing that you can be together again some day.
My love and sympathy go out to all of you.
