Richard Troester Obituary

Richard F. "Dick" Troester 1933 ~ 2007 "My best friend, soul mate and loving husband passed away today, December 23rd, after a long and valiant fight with Myasthenia Gravis and an extremely aggressive cancer. He was a beautiful man who was always there for everyone," his loving wife, Janice.Born January 12, 1933 in Midvale, Utah to Arnold C. and Bessie Facey Troester. Richard grew up in Midvale and graduated from Jordan High School in 1951. Enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War where he served as an Aviation Electricians Mate Petty Officer Second Class. After leaving the Navy he served his country working for the Department of Defense as a Supervisor and then as an Engineering Technical Specialist at Hill Air Force Base. He retired from Hill AFB December 1988. Richard married the love of his life, Janice Anne Gatherum, in 1953 while still serving in the US Navy. Richard and Janice had two fine sons, Kenny and Danny, and have spent and enjoyed many happy times with them and their families over these many years. Both Richard and Janice enjoyed doing everything together. They both loved black powder shooting, camping, fishing and many other outdoor activities such as spending time in their tipi, trailer and traveling with their friends. Dick was a father, lover, craftsmen, artisan, engineer and conversationalist. His life long dream was to build a cabin with his wife and sons, but instead created a beautiful home built of log, sweat and love in the mountains he loved so dearly. Both Richard and Janice loved their family. Richard loved his adoring sister Dorothy, also Muriel and Bobbie, the best sisters-in-law that could ever be. His family, Ken, Dan, Suzie, Gabriel, Justin, Devina, Jeremy, Jesse, Kaitlan, Charity, their loving dog Eddie, and many others who will remember him forever. Both Richard and Janice loved their pets. Over these many years they have said goodbye to many of them and Richard always has said that wherever dogs go after they have served their time here on earth is where he wants to be. Richard was an honored member of the "Biweekly Coffee Club", Hilltop United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 71, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and AARP. Past member of the Civil Air Patrol, National Association of Supervisors, Great Basin Brigade, The American Mountain Men and the Mountain Men of the Wasatch. I was so saddened to learn of your Fathers/Grandfathers passing. Please know you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers. Sounds like he was a remarkable man, and Dan his legacy will live on through you, and your boys, as I'm sure you made him so proud.
Stay Strong, and may you find comfort knowing others are there for you, and that your father/grandfather is at peace, and no longer in pain.

Dan, I'm very sorry to hear of your Father passing. I was reading another guest book entry about the service station/garage in Midvale, and it brought back many good memories, those were the days! My condolences to you and your family. Respectfully submitted, from a fellow Hilltop member, Phil Montoya.

Dear Troester Family,
Dick Troester and I were friends and schoolmates from the primary grades in Midvale through to our graduation from Jordan High School in 1951. I was born right in the middle of what is now known as "Historic Midvale" just a short distance from Arnold Troester's garage business. During our last year at Jordan, we both worked on the 'Beetdigger' yearbook which was done 'in house' with Mr. Milton Jones as our faculty advisor. Both Dick and myself were involved with photography for the yearbook and if you can find a copy of the 1951 book, you will see a full page portrait of Dick on what should be about page 22. I shot this picture using the school's 4X5 Crown Graphic press camera. When I read that Dick had passed away, it brought back a flood of memories. I was just 12 days older than Dick as I was born on New Year's Day, 1933. God bless and comfort you as I know you will surely miss this schoolmate and friend of mine and beloved family member of yours.

I will miss my Grandpa dearly but I know he is now in a better place where he will suffer no more! He can now look down upon us to keep us in safety! He will be my guardian angel! He will always be in my heart! I love you Grandpa!
