Sherrill Lunt Obituary

August 7, 1937 ~ April 3, 2016
Our Heavenly Father called our sweet angel wife, mother and grandmother home on April 3, 2016. Mom was the fifth of seven children who were born to Zina Cummings and Morris Hunter. She entered the world on August 7, 1937, in Fillmore, Utah. She attended school in Fillmore, and graduated from Millard High School. Mom participated in many activities in high school, but singing in a trio was one of the highlights of her school days, and her beautiful voice blessed the lives of many.
Mom attended college at College of Southern Utah (SUU), and while there met Charles Stephen Lunt, she said he swept her off her feet. They were married on September 6, 1957, in the St. George Temple. Dad attended school at Utah State University and BYU, and mom worked as a secretary.
One of the greatest joys of her life is when Heavenly Father sent four precious children into their home. It was a dream come true for her to be a mother. The grandchildren who have come into our family have been a great joy and delight and she loves each one of them dearly.
Mom has been a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a deep love for her Heavenly Father and her Savior. Her testimony of the Savior and the atonement has been her source of strength, peace and comfort.
Mom has been blessed to be associated with our Heavenly Father's beloved youth. She treasured the time spent working with Scouts, Primary children, Sunday School, Young Women, Relief Society and students at the Seminary. Her life was truly blessed by spending her time with dedicated teachers and special young people.
Mom is survived by her husband, Steve, her children, Troy (Lori), Rick (Rochelle), Kregg (Sandi), Kim (Kade) Fullmer, 15 precious grandchildren and three beautiful great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Joan Kenney, and her brothers, Gail Hunter and Larry Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Gwen and Maxine, her brother, Reid, and grandson, Kyson.
With her final words, she wanted to tell you that our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ, live and that they love us, and she loves them.

To Steve and family. Sherrill was my college roommate. She brought love and laughter to 4 special friends and to many others as well. I treasure the time so long ago that I spent with her. She was kind, gentle and caring. Her special memory will remain with me always. To you, her family, you are fortunate to have had her in your life. May peace and love abide with you forever as you remember this beautiful person.

To Steve and your wonderful family: I have been blessed and honored to know Steve and Sherrill through the past 50-some years as they welcomed me into the Utah family after I arrived from Kansas. All of Iron County and, for that matter ALL of the Southern Utah tier of counties, have long recognized the impact of Sherrill and Steve on so many thousands of citizens. When I would travel the highways and byways of Southern Utah during my days with The Salt Lake Tribune, I became acutely aware of the Lunt legacy....or, as we have come to know Cedar City -- the "Coaching Factory." If you knew Steve, you knew Sherrill. The two of them worked side-by-side and tirelessly to promote their school, their community and their "boys." Dozens of those "boys
have gone on to sterling coaching careers and in other endeavors, all of them with the Lunt name on their resumes. As the age-old adage goes, behind every great man stands a great woman. Sherrill was Steve's great woman. And we will miss her.

So sorry to hear of Sherill's passing. "By their fruits ye shall know them," and Sherrill and Steve certainly have a beautiful family to carry on the great Lunt name. May you all be blessed with our Heavenly Father's love at this very difficult time and receive the strength to endure.

We love you all,

Many years ago, Sherrill was my daughters baby sitter. Jamie loved her so much, she never wanted to come home with me. Then when Jamie was in high school, who asks her out is Kregg. The only reason I let her go was I knew his sweet mom, not to mention he was such a good guy. I am so sorry she has passed, but there for sure is a place all ready for her in Heaven. What a wonderful reunion with her grandson. Much love to the family.
