My son and I were hometeachers to Rhees and Shirley Ririe for about 7 years. What an absolutely delightful couple. Shirley was always a gracious and thoughtful host. She was very bright and always kind. She left an incredible mark on world. Bob Sykes

On behalf of my mother, I just wanted to add another thank you from the many whose lives Shirley touched in her time. My mom was one of Shirley's students at the U of U, and went on to design costumes for some of the Ririe Woodbury dance productions. In addition to offering a spectacular opportunity and forum to bring to life her designs, I know Shirley provided guidance and encouragement to my mother throughout this time. Mom went on to have a successful career as a costumer for the movies. She wouldn't have gotten there without Shirley's influence in her early life.
I grew up with Shirley's work and love the beauty she created for this world. Wishing the Ririe family comfort in her legacy and the lasting impact she had on so many. Condolences and gratitude from our family.

Shirley Shirley Shirley.... You will be missed. What an inspirational life you led. All of us in Minnesota who crossed paths with you celebrate and mourn your loss. From meeting you in 1979 while a dance student at BYU , student teaching at East High in Salt Lake with Connie Jo Hepworth and then bringing you to Mn to work with dance educators throughout the years..... I am grateful and send condolences to your beautiful family.

To Shirley's family--I was a dance student 1956-1960. She and Joan Woodbury were the teachers in the Dance Department headed by Dr. Elizabeth Hayes. It was a fabulous experience. I also was part of the Artist-in-School program with 5 different residences in Ohio. I moved to CO in 1960 and taught dance in the Denver Public Schools, retiring in 1997. I am very involved in the Dance Community in Denver. Both she and Joan will forever be my hero's for what I learned from them and applied in my teaching. She had a wonderful life and made a major contribution to dance education and performance. I will always remember her laugh!

Shirley Ririe contributed more to the arts in our community than most any other person. She's going to be missed very much by her many friends.

My sister and I both danced all of our childhood, so when I heard that Shirley lived at The Abbington, I called my sister and said "Lets go meet her!" in true geek fanning fashion. Shirley was famous in our circles. We wanted to go thank her for all of the dance influence she had in our lives. We loved our visit, and she perked right up when we entered and spoke dance vocabulary! I now am in the Branch leadership and have had the opportunity to see Shirley much more often, and will miss her beauty. Thank you Shirley! I imagine her dancing and leaping with great strength and grace once again.
Love,

Dear Ririe Family,
We are so sorry about Shirley's passing. She was a beautiful soul and will be missed. She had poise until the very end. We send our love and peace at this time.

Shirley was such a kind person. She took the time to write me the most beautiful letter after watching me teach children at a conference. She also got me to take the two week teacher workshop Ririe/Woodbury offers in the summer. The world was blessed to have Shirley in it.
