Stephania Zervos Obituary

Stephania Adondakis Zervos Mother and Yiayia Stephania Adondakis Zervos left the earthly world on Wednesday, March 28, 2007. She was the youngest of ten children, born to Spiros and Agyro (Lendaris) Adondakis on November 15, 1923 in Crete, Greece. She and her immediate family survived the German occupation of Crete during World War II. On October 16, 1949 she married her husband, Michael Stylianos Zervos in Crete. With the help of her brother, George Adondakis, they immigrated to America. They arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 6, 1951, where they settled in West Jordan, Utah, and raised their seven children. Throughout the years, hundreds of people have dined at her kitchen table and enjoyed her Greek cooking. She has made thousands of diples for various weddings. One of her greatest joys was making koulourakia, sweet bread, and kalitsounia for her grandchildren and playing the card game Canasta. Stephania instilled a deep love of church, community and culture in her children and grandchildren. While adjusting to her new country, she developed a love for America and became an American citizen in 1994. She was an active steward of the Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Minos. In 2002, Stephania was voted Mother of the Year by the Daughters of Minos. She is survived by her children, Chryssi (Jim) Kocolas, Stella (George) Brokalakis, Georgia (Steve) Katsanevas, Steve Zervos, Presvytera Ranae (Fr. Joseph) Strzelecki, Mary (Peter) Yannias, Michael (Demetra) Zervos, and 15 grandchildren who cherish her. Stephania was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Zervos, in 1988. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sister in laws and a sister, Irene (Chania, Crete). A Trisagion service will be chanted on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 7:30 p.m., with visitations between 5 and 8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 South 300 West. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Sat, March 31, 2007 at 12 p.m. (noon). Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Greek Orthodox Church Benevolence Fund. She always wanted to help the poor. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.memorialutah.com "Mitera and Yiayai, we love you so much and we know you are in the Heavenly Kingdom, where there is no pain or sorrow. To all my dear cousins,
Thea Stephania will always be in our hearts and prayers. Our lives will always be full of the memories of Thanks Giving dinners, Christmas’s, and family gathering’s. We have all been truly enriched by her wisdom and unconditional love. Through the coming years we can be assured of drawing from the lessons we have learned from her, and hopefully share those lessons of Faith, Love, and family devotion with the people we come in contact with. We the nieces and nephews along with our children will keep her memory alive.

All our love always,

To the entire Zervos family: I remember your mother with fondness and love. She was a wonderful woman, always with a smile. I especially remember her visiting my mother during her last years when she was having such a difficult time. It was always a bright spot for my mother when "sembethera" came to visit. They would laugh together remembering some of the old times, and they would cry together remembering some of the old times. But it was always an enjoyable visit for my mom and I appreciated your mom for continuing to visit til the end.

May God give you all the strength you need to get through this difficult time. Remember her for all the good times you had as a family and know that her memory will be eternal.
