Stephen James Clarke 1948 ~ 2005 BOUNTIFUL - Stephen James Clarke died following heart surgery, Monday, December 26, 2005. Born in San Francisco, California, November 21, 1948 to Dr. James H. Clarke and Elaine Williams Ball. Stephen married Kathleen Burton on December 27, 1973 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Although later divorced they remained lifelong friends as parents to four remarkable children. Stephen later married Leslie Merrick, June 21, 1991 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He served in the U.S. Army Nat'l Guard. He served an LDS Mission to the Philippines. He attended the U of U and graduated as an engineer from Weber State College, but he was always a "Utah-man, sir". He was a perfectionist as a contractor with Stephen Clarke Engineering, Thiokol, Sorex Medical and later with FMC Jetway. Stephen was honored with many awards throughout his career as an engineer. Stephen was disabled in an industrial accident. He had a brilliant mind, loved reading and was a wise confident father for his children. His extended family wishes to thank Leslie and his children for their generous, patient support and love as caregivers! Stephen is survived by his noble wife and caregiver, Leslie; daughter, Jennifer (Shaun) Romero, Syracuse; Alicia (Washington D.C.); sons, David (Rachel), Centerville; Jed (Jessica), North Salt Lake; and Josh "Bubba", Centerville; sisters, Susan (Kim) Burningham, Catherine (Roy) Robinson, and brother, Jeff (Mary); grandchildren Natalie and Cole Romero, Ella and Holly Clarke. Leslie,

When I arrived at work this morning there was a message from Ethel about your husband's passing. May you feel the comfort of our Heavenly Father as you cope with this loss and may the peace that comes from Him be a healing balm to you and your family.

Dear Leslie and family,

I grew up in your neighborhood and was Anne's age. I was sorry to read of the death of your husband. I am so glad that you found that love, and will have it forever. I am sorry for the void that will be there, but I know your family, all of them will help one another to honor him by supporting each other through this. You have a good family who love one another. It sounds like you followed in your mothers footsteps about being a great caretaker for loved ones and those who are in need. What a good example. Please give your family my love and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerly, Carla (Lyon) Del Porto

Dear Clarke Family,

Today for us, a childhood friend has passed away. Our entire family shares your loss and our thoughts and prayers will be with you. Many great memories on the horses in the mountains, football under the crab apple trees, sleep overs, and ward camp outs.

I'll never forget late one Friday night when we were in our teens, we heard some clattering in our kitchen after we had all gone to bed. Needless to say, we were concerned and jumped up to see what was the matter. There was Steve, with his shoes propped up on our kitchen table eating a ham sandwich. "Just got off a date and decided to get something to eat" came his reply. That sums up the Steve I grew up with and always enjoyed as a friend.

Susan, Jeff, Kathy and the rest of the family, our hearts are with you and we look forward to visiting with you in person soon.

Kathy and children, Kim and Susan and all family members:

I am stunned to learn of Steve's passing. My heart goes out to you during this very heart breaking time.

The memories are sweet of our days at BHS and as young married couples.

Bless you as you struggle with the huge loss.
