Steven Tew Obituary

5/17/1961 ~ 3/ 1/ 2016
Steven Darrell Tew, passed away, unexpectedly from a heart attack on March 1, 2016. A day that began like many others brought with it the passing of this beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, to the surprise of all who knew him.
Steve was born May 17, 1961, to Darrell Elden and Joan Kerby Tew, in Salt Lake City, UT. He spent his early years in Murray, UT with his parents and three siblings: Wayne, Angela and Lisa. He graduated from Murray High School. Then he served an LDS mission to San Juan Puerto Rico. Later he graduated from BYU with a BS degree in zoology. He married Kellie Jo Robinson in the Salt Lake Temple on September 29, 2000. They have four wonderful children: Joseph Steven, Jessica Marie, Jacob Alan and Jordan Lynette. He worked for over 20 years for Delta Airlines because he loved to travel. He opened his own business, Blue Frontier Divers, to follow his passion for scuba diving. He certified as a scuba diver at the age of 15 and has loved it ever since.
Steve led an active life. He was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed swimming, weight lifting and camping and, for the quieter moments, he loved reading, music and photography. Scouting was very important to Steve as well. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a teenager and has been involved in scouting on some level for most of his life. He was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings. His favorite, of course, was Scout master. Steve loved to travel and wanted to show his children the world, especially the 70 percent that is covered by ocean. He had a wonderful sense of humor. One of the last things he said to his children as he was taking them to school Tuesday morning was, "See you later. Have fun storming the castle". He was quoting "Princess Bride", but that was typical. His laughter and fun will be missed.
Steve is survived by his wife, four children, his parents, his siblings: Wayne Joel Tew (Michelle), Angela (Michael) Poulter, and Lisa Ann (Dominic) Ingo, and many nieces and nephews. We would like to express our gratitude for the many kindnesses we have received and would like to thank those who tried to save his life.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Union Park Stake Center on 7699 Chad Street. (near Harmon's Grocery Store on 7800 S 700 E) in Midvale. A viewing will be held on Monday, March 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street in Murray, and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Jessica, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I remember meeting him at parent teacher conferences and he seemed like such a great dad. If I can do anything for you, stop by my room. Mrs. Shumate

I worked many years with Steve at Delta and am so sad to hear about his passing. When I think of Steve, he is always smiling or laughing. I am so grateful to have been able to learn how to scuba dive from him (as did my mother-in-law and husband). Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you who will be missing him daily--especially his family.

I was so srry

Dear Tew Family, I was so sorry to hear about your terrible loss. If you're having a hard time with this when you come back to school, please share with your teachers and counselors. When I lost my husband six years ago, my family at Union had a lot to do with my healing and recovery. Loss is loss and sharing helps. Sincerely, Lynne Rand

I am so sorry for your loss...I have known Steve since about 1988 when we both worked for Delta Air Lines..We had both went our separate ways and ran into each other at Bear Lake after not seeing each other for about 10 years or so...He was in his wet suit and had all his scuba gear and was ready to go diving...we caught up a bit and he told me that he had a scuba business and was doing what he loved to do...he looked so happy...had that big smile that only Steve possessed..He will be greatly missed..

Sorry for you loss. I didn't know Steve other than seeing him at the gym, just about every day for years. Seemed like we were both creatures of habit because we were always getting in each others way at the lockers. May he rest in peace

I became acquainted with Steve at Vasa Gym. Saw him many days of the week. Always friendly and welcoming. My heart and prayers go out to his family. The Savior's blessing to his disciples and all of us:"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you." -I pray you will know this peace.
