Sultan Chaudhry Obituary

Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry
1932 ~ 2025
In Loving Memory

Murray, UT-Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, 92, of Phoenix, AZ and Murray, UT passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hushiarpur, India, to Mian Mohammad Jan and Barkat Bibi, Sultan's early life was shaped by the upheaval of the Partition. His family became refugees and resettled in Jhalan, a small village about two hours outside Lahore, Pakistan.

In 1980, Sultan made the bold decision to immigrate to the United States in pursuit of a better life for his family that has left a generational impact for his children and grandchildren in this country he so deeply loved. He arrived in Murray, Utah, where he was warmly welcomed by the local community and lived in the basement apartment of Ma Frankum, a kind elderly woman whose generosity he remembered with deep gratitude. He began working as a car salesman at Spartan Jeep, doing whatever it took to support his wife and children back in Pakistan.

Though he lived with modest means, Sultan was unwavering in his commitment to his family. The phone calls from the US became a sacred ritual-his children would gather at a neighbor's home, eagerly waiting for the phone to ring. Each child took a brief turn speaking to their father, those fleeting minutes filled with love and reassurance. Despite financial challenges, Sultan made a few treasured visits to Pakistan during those years apart.

In 1986, after a long wait, his children were granted visas to join him in the US. His eldest daughter, Samina remained in Pakistan with her husband and child before eventually moving to Sydney, Australia. The family initially settled in Murray, Utah, briefly lived in Tempe, Arizona, before returning to Utah. In 1992, six years after the children arrived, his wife Salma was granted a visa to immigrate, finally reuniting the family after twelve years of separation.

Sultan spent most of his sales career at Rick Warner Truck Land, where he became a top performer known for his integrity, perseverance, and humility. He lived by the principle of short-term pain for long-term gain-instilling in his children and grandchildren a deep work ethic and the belief that sacrifices made today could build a brighter future tomorrow. He lived for his family, worked without complaint, and left a legacy far greater than wealth.

In his final years, Sultan lived in Phoenix, Arizona, where he faced the challenges of Alzheimer's and dementia with quiet strength. Though he often dreamed of returning to live out his final years in his hometown village of Jhalan, his medical condition ultimately made this journey impossible.

He is survived by his wife, Salma, eight of his nine children and their spouses, twenty-five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his younger brother Sardar Ali Chaudhry. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him, loved him, and learned from his example.

Sultan was my neighbor in Murray. He was a very nice and generous man. He took in a child that was a distant relative to give him a better home environment. It was a difficult situation but Sultan did not give up on this boy. I will always remember how kind he was to help a child that needed it.
