Thomas Kemerer Obituary

Thomas Floyd Kemerer "Finished The Course"  A wonderful husband, father and son, "finished the course" and journeyed home to his Heavenly Father on January 19, 2004 after an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was the only child born to Floyd Elmer Kemerer (deceased) and Vivian Marie Milsted in Washington, D.C. on October 27, 1944. He married his sweetheart, Jill Pymm on June 24, 1972. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his wife, Jill; mother, Vivian; and daughter Kristen Robinson (Jay). Tom attended Good Counsel Catholic High School in Wheaton, Maryland. He attended Montgomery College, University of Maryland, and graduated from West Virginia University with a Masters in Geology. He did research on his Ph.D. dissertation in underwater offshore Bermuda formations and taught part-time. He went on to work in New Orleans and Houston in the off shore oil and gas exploration industry for 16 years. Tom's first love in life was model trains--collecting and building them but geology was his passion. Many family trips were taken where he gladly gave all who were in hearing distance the geologic history of the surrounding mountains, valleys and rocks. He loved the outdoors and was happy just to be with God's creations. He was also an accomplished woodworker. In 1992, Tom relocated his family from Spring, Texas to Utah and became a successful business owner. Through his honest, hard work as a small businessman, he was able to provide a good life for his family as well as bless the lives of many others he came in contact with. Tom was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served as Sunday School President, Young Men's President, Stake Missionary, and finally as a 3rd Counselor in the Mingo Convalescent Branch in Sandy. He loved the gospel and the scriptures and never wavered in his testimony. He also loved doing genealogy research and spent many hours in the downtown Family History Library searching out his ancestors. Tom was known as a kind, humble person. He was the sweetest husband, an excellent father to his daughter, and loving son to his mother. He will be truly missed by many. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sandy LDS Stake Center 8650 South 220 East. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State Thursday 6-8 p.m. or Friday at the stake center from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.

Jill and Kristen...So sorry to hear about Tom. I always thought he was a special neighbor and friend. After you moved it was always nice to see his smiling face when we went to Quick Thru. Jake always thought Tom was a super boss. We appreciated that. We will be thinking of you.

Take care...Louise and the rest of the Perrys
