Lt. Col. Albert Dixon (Dick) Pattillo Jr. USAF ( RET.)

Lt. Col. Albert Dixon (Dick) Pattillo Jr. USAF ( RET.) passed from this earthly life in San Antonio, Texas to life eternal with his Savior Jesus Christ on January 28, 2024 at the age of 86 years. He was dearly and deeply loved by his family and friends. He was a great man and will be greatly missed.
Dick was born in Dallas, Tx on September 4, 1937. His parents were Dr. Albert D. Pattillo and Charlotte Pattillo. He graduated from Austin High School in 1955 and entered the University of Texas, Austin. He later entered Aviation Cadet Training at Harlingen AFB, Tx. and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt., earning his navigator wings in January 1961. His first assignment was in the C-130 " Hercules" aircraft at Sewart AFB, TN. His next assignment was at Langley AFB, VA. From where he separated from active duty in 1965 to complete his education.
Returning to the University in Austin, he earned a BA while continuing to fly with the USAF Reserves. He went on to earn a MS from the University of Wisconsin, Madison maintaining his USAF Reserves affiliation. He later accepted a position as an Air Reserve Technician at Kelly AFB, TX.
In 1985, all personnel with the C-130, was transferred to Peterson AFB, CO. In 1991, the squadron was recalled for active duty in support of Desert Shield/Storm and Dick was assigned to RAF Mildenhall, UK as a squadron commander. Dick retired militarily in 1992 and accepted a position in the Wing Quality Office. In 1997, after 36 years of service, Dick retired and pursued his passions.
Dick's many passions included travel, fishing , boating, both water and snow skiing, hiking, bridge, reading and playing pickleball. He and Janis, his wife of 63 years, enjoyed many travel adventures in numerous countries. Together they have traveled to all seven continents. Dick was an avid fisherman, especially fly fishing and fished for nearly every species in many exotic locales.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Albert D. and Charlotte Pattillo. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janis Sheffey Pattillo, his three children, Albert D. (Pat) Pattillo III ( Sheri), Lori Pattillo Fitch ( Sheldon) and Curtis Pattillo ( Anne). Dick, also known as Pepaw, really loved his six grandsons, Dixon ( Kendall), Parker ( fiancée Hannah), William, Marshall, Bodhi, Wilson and two great-grandchildren, Knox and Harper Marie; and his sister Mary Gillespie ( Cam).
A Memorial Service is to be held on February 9, 2024 at Watershed Church 9315 Broadway. At a later date, Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society or any of your choice. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the loving staff at Landon Ridge Alamo Ranch.
