Claude Martin Obituary
Claude C. Martin, age 60, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with numerous medical problems. He was a loving and devoted father and Papaw, and touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Claude grew up in Barnesville, Georgia, the youngest son of George and Vivian Martin, where he attended Gordon Junior College. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University, and Master of Science in Forensic Science from The George Washington University. He began his career in law enforcement as a clerk in the Washington, D.C. office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After working for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Claude returned to the F.B.I. in 1966, where he began a distinguished 33 year career as a Special Agent. During his career, he was assigned to the Miami, FL and San Antonio, TX Field Offices, and to the F.B.I. Headquarters-Document Examination Section in Washington, D.C. While assigned to the San Antonio Field Office, he served in various supervisory capacities. He functioned as F.B.I. Liaison to the Drug Enforcement Administration, and as an F.B.I. Police Instructor. Investigations in which Special Agent Martin played a significant role include the investigation of the assassination of Federal Judge John Wood, multiple investigations involving public corruption, and investigation leading to the arrest of a suspect on the F.B.I.'s Ten Most Wanted list. He received numerous commendations for his work. Following his retirement from the F.B.I. in 1999, Claude began a second career as a private investigator. He remained active in this career until his death. In addition to his career, Claude was very active in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Papaw, as he was lovingly known, was a constant supportive presence at work, school, and extracurricular events. His greatest legacy is the example of honesty, character, and integrity, that he set for all who knew him. Papaw is survived by his daughters, DeAndra Lynn Martin, M.D. and husband, Tom Brite, Robin Dawn Trowbridge and husband, Daniel, and Deborah Renee Martin; wife of 38 years, LauTrieve Martin; grandchildren, Brooke Elise Martin, Cody Michael Ramirez, Rachel Elizabeth Arevalo, Taylor Brite, and Alan Thomas Brite; brothers, Larry Martin and Walter Martin; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North. SERVICE WEDNESDAY 1:00 P.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL With Mr. Dennis MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
